Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keishiiah Hall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Keishiiah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I came up with the idea of starting my own business way before I even thought about doing lashes. I got my first job when I was 15 and even though I worked I always had some type of hustle. In Middle school I made hair bows out of chip bags and skittle wrappers. Then in high school I picked up doing hair and I also had a mini dessert shop and it was great! But it wasn’t until I took a lash class that I found what I wanted to do. My idea for what I wanted with my lash business changed so many times even my business name. From LashedbyLacole, Ascending Cosmetics, to now TheLashForecast. I knew being a lash artist was for me because I love making women feel beautiful and I love being able to provide a safe space for women to say whatever is on their minds and be comfortable with it. Lashing is a very intimate service and that’s important because it’s one on one time creating beautiful bonds.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Keishiiah Hall a 21 year old Lash Artist from Indianapolis,IN. Being a business owner has always been something I was interested in. Growing up my aunt bought me a lemonade stand I never got to use it but I used to stare at it and think about all the ways I could sell lemonade and I remember thinking it was so cool because I could make it my own. I had imagined how my sign would stand out, how I could have cool colored straws. I was fascinated and Its only contained. I always loved adding my own spice to things and I love learning how to do new things. I had a few “ at school businesses” before I started lashing like selling hair bows made out of chip bags and skittle wrappers, A mini dessert shop, doing hair. But when I took my first lash class in June 2020 I started to focus on lashes and I practiced on my mannequin, family members, friends. Then I went to college at Virginia State University and did lashes and sold Body Butters. I swear having a college business is one of the best things you can network and the support you receive is out of this world! I ended up moving back home after freshman year and I started thinking how I could make the lashing process better and I thought about what my clients complained about and that how uncomfortable lash beds are. Figuring out what small problems can be fixed and taking action is what sets me apart from others whether that’s finding new ways to provide comfort or finding new ways individualize every appt.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience on social media can be tricky. When I first started I would feel bad because I would get little to no likes, no shares and comparison would kick in ever once in a while. But it seriously changed once I started learning the algorithm of each platform I was using and once I started focusing on the things I wanted for my business there was no room for comparison. A few things that have helped me grow on social media is using key words, hashtags, not limiting myself to just one platform. My best advice is to focus on your journey and understand that your following is just a number that is bound to grow if you just stay consistent. Don’t sit on your content just post but be sure that when your actually collecting or filming your content be intentional in getting good shots using different angles, backgrounds, and sounds.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I love this question because the answer is so simple. Having great customer service is the most effective strategy for growing your clientele! It’s unfortunate but a lot of business lack good customer service so my advice is be kind, people appreciate it more than you think. To me great customer service looks like responding in a timely manner, saying thank you when potential clients do reach out, remembering names/important details, following up after appts, acknowledging your mistakes and giving compensation, etc.. Custom service is at the top of my list because it generates word of mouth people are happy to give your business name out when you create this good experiences. Trust me WORD OF MOUTH is powerful!
