We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keisha Fullerton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keisha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I went thru a rebranding process several years ago, wanting to differentiate myself from several brands (at the time) who used a similar name to my previous (K.Renee). The desire was to have something unique that spoke to what the company was. I researched synonyms for clothing and Raiment resonated with me the most.
Keisha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Keisha Fullerton, I am an fashion industry professional for close to twenty years. I was that young girl who didn’t always have the latest and greatest, but it enabled me to create the things I wanted to see, wanted to have. It fueled my love of creating. I started my career with the graciousness of some amazing women in my early twenties that would mentor and teach me the true art of design and styling. The opportunities provided thru them is what propelled me to start my brand while also entering the wholesale apparel world. For almost two decades, I’ve worked with several multi-line contemporary clothing brands in the Southeast managing specialty business in conjunction with having the ability to also design my brand. The marriage between the creative and the wholesale side has allowed me to have a unique opportunity to see what drives buyers to make decisions when placing orders for their stores as well as seeing what consumers are directly drawn to in the marketplace.
The collection consists of looks ranging from ultra-feminine to sexy chic. With a clever eye for detail and an attraction to color, the focus is on subtle features to emphasize the brands aesthetic in rich colorful hues. The line reflects the modern attitude of today’s woman. The desire is to consistently create timeless, versatile looks that embody confidence, style, elegance and sophistication, for years to come.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Most recently (earlier this year) I decided to shift from just selling online to hiring a Showroom to representing my brand both in the Southeast and Midwest. I realized that unless I had a ton of marketing dollars to drive business to my website that it would shift how I was showcasing the line to gain more visibility. I will be launching S/S 2023 in October at a regional trade show in Atlanta.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a Designer is being able to see the look on my client’s faces of when I’ve created something for them that they feel and look amazing in!
