We were lucky to catch up with Keisha Bowman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Keisha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
It’s a funny story on how I created the name ‘Brows and Beauty Room’. During the brainstorming phase, i knew that eyebrows would be the focus and I knew eventually I would branch off and add other beauty services. So I named it ‘Brows and Beauty Room”. But the things is, I could not see my business outside of renting a salon suite— hence, “room”. I never expected my vision to exceed far past my expectations. I’m glad that eventually, I did see the bigger picture.
Keisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Keisha, I’m a Microblading Artist and Salon Suites Owner. I started from the kitchen of my home. I had absolutely nothing two and a half years ago, I just knew I wanted more for myself and I knew the beauty industry was going to be my way out. I had no other option. Anything concerning brows was always my focus. Brow tinting, ombré brows, brow lamination, I do it all. I hustled my way to the top for 2 years straight. Servicing clients from morning to night, conducting trainings, creating content, marketing, and constantly thinking of new ways to scale my business. Any issue or problem I came across— I didn’t have excuses or complained, I problem solved. Google and YouTube became my best friends.
I’m most proud of the work I put in from start to finish. Brows and Beauty Room was an unknown brand two and a half years ago. Fast forward to now, I am being sought after by celebrities, local magazines, local artists, etc,
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience mostly on social media. Facebook and Instagram Ads are my go-to. However, I advertised my business on all platforms such as TikTok, Groupon, Etc.
My advice to anyone wanting to grow their audience is to focus on creating engaging content. Reels are the best to post and it’s super easy to go viral on TikTok. Use your Insights tab to your advantage when you are deciding when and what times to post.
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
I’m an advocate of creating multiple streams of income. Along with performing services, my business sells beauty and permanent makeup products, e-books, online tutorials, and we also have salon suites for other female entrepreneurs to run their own individual businesses.
