We were lucky to catch up with Keisha Ash recently and have shared our conversation below.

Keisha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Our business name came from a place in the depths of my souls. Agapé is the Greek word meaning unconditional and selfless love. It is the highest power of love and the purest form of love. It is used in the bible to describe the love God has for His children. It is this kind of love that portrays my genuine love for people and my business.

Each candle fragrance has it’s own scripture which is designed to inspire or motivate the reader. We realize that all of our customers don’t share our spiritual beliefs, I personally believe that a good word of inspiration will help brighten anyone’s day.

Hello World!!! I’m Keisha; a woman with many hats. I’m a wife, mom, girly girl, candle connoisseur, Christian and one of your biggest cheeleader. Not only am I the owner of Agape Candle Company, but I also own 2 other businesses.

I am a lively, bubbly person who loves candles and just about anything that is fragrant (perfumes, air freshener, body lotions, mist, sprays…you name it!) I also have a genuine love for people! God and family are first in my life. I take great pride in my candle creations. It’s my personal endeavor to always treat my customers with respect, tender loving care and professionalism!

How did my journey begin?

I’m glad you asked! Family and friends can attest to my fetish for candles, fragrances and body care products. My home became a wax museum, literally, with shelves decorated with innumerable candles. In retrospect, my vast collections was driven by one pursuit in finding the perfect candle! The candles that crossed my path were the opposite of my expectations. By that I mean one that was organic, distinctive, non-hazardous and environmentally safe, offering a truthful fragrance while maintaining its smell! I wanted this for myself, my family, our earth and everyone that lives in it.

It became evident that if I wanted a candle to meet my criteria, I would have to create it! Now that was a novel thought!
In 2013 I made it my goal to solve this problem not only for myself but for others who had the same concerns. That was the beginning our my journey to provide my clients with hand poured candles that are non-toxic, allowing them to relax and take a deep, refreshing breath in without the toxic fumes of paraffin wax, synthetic fragrances, lead, and harmful chemicals you don’t want your family exposed to.

Problem solved, but I wanted to create something more. Something that would help us stand out from other brands and give our clients something more than just a candle. So, back in the laboratory I went. After hours of deep thought, researching and experimenting…VIOLA!!!!! We offer a natural and beautifully scented candle designed to fill your home with rich aromas that entice your senses while moisturizing and nourishing your skin. Unlike candles made of traditional candle wax, our proprietary blend of skin nourishing ingredients transform our ​candles to a ​​moisturizing balm​, and when liquified a warm, soothing ​​​massage oil.

Since our first day in business we’ve been bringing some of the best selections of products and merchandise to our customers. Our name has become synonymous with quality throughout the entire Houston, Humble and surrounding areas. The earlier stages of this journey were a bit scary, and over the years its been a tough road but I had a word from the Lord. It is my foundation!!! Today I still find much joy in this journey! Nothing can compare to the pleasure and pride I get every day from hearing so many compliments from our happy customers. I know I did the only right thing for me and my family. How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?

What has fostered brand loyalty for Agape Candle Company is genuinely caring for clients, maintaining avenues of communication, being transparent and consistently providing new and quality products and superb customer service.

I keep in touch with our customers via our newsletter and personable emails. Our newsletters are designed to share our deals and keep clients abreast of new products and packages. In addition, you’ll find some cool ideas or motivational quotes.

I have clients and subscribers that have been with us for years. I will often reach out to those day one clients with a phone call or through an e-mail to say hello and simply let them know that someone is thinking about them. Newer clients will sometimes get a motivational email .

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

My biggest source for new clients has been displaying and promoting my products an pop-up shops, events, craft shows and festivals. While we do have a website, it’s hard to sell a candle through a website alone. Avenues such as the ones mentions gives us more exposure to new environments, new communities, a variety of people. It offers candle lovers a more personable experience. They are able to see, feel and smell our products before making a purchase. It also open up the doors to build relationships outside of the confinements of the internet. They get to see and feel the genuine passion and love that comes with our brand.
