Keira, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I recognized that the definitions of success vary widely.
Success is being able to make a positive impact and helping others create a life where they can do the same for themselves it also can is being proud, confident and connected to the community and the people around me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello to you all and welcome to the inside scoop of me Keira leake.
I am a licensed Nail Tech/professional dancer who loves what I do everyday. I started off dancing seriously when I was in high school at Lynwood high with my dance teacher Mr.medal who was a excellent teacher from there I went to el Camino college where I studied dance for 3 1/2 years from ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, contemporary and etc.i began to love dance the more I trained in different styles. After I left college I began to start teaching dance to middle school kids in afterschool programs which allowed us to participate in competitions and have school talent for the school.Once I branched off from kids I began to do more training from different choreographers to learn and grow more (always be willing to learn) from heel to pole dancing twerk and more I really love dancing it’s a way I can express myself and tell a story.
After a while I wanted to take a break from dance and try something new so I decided to learn how to do nails. It’s crazy because I use to be in the nail shop every week getting new sets until I came with the idea of learning on my own. I use to sit in my room for days just practicing nails on myself and my sisters to learn and get better.. one the greatest friends of mine seen the potential in me and took me to my first nail store to get more professional things to really get into doing nails that day changed my life forever I was so motivated and happy to have been there and because I knew what god was about to do with me. After a lil more practice I started to take clients (friends and family) which made me feel good because they saw my potential. Because I wanted to further my career and start a business so I decided to go to manicurist school to get my license so I can be legally and start excepting other clients. After the 4 long months I finally finished my hours and took my test and Past I was excited I became licensed that day and was about to become the best nail tech ever. Every since I got my license I have been doing nails left to right from working in a shop, from having a nail room to being blessed to do celebrity nails as well. I do all styles from acrylic, press ons,gel x,structure manicures, pedicures, men manicures etc. I love every client that has supported me and still supports me till this day I am beyond grateful and appreciate them. I can say I am very proud of myself how far I have come and where the future hold for me I promised myself to never give up when business get hard use that as motivation to go harder to get to where you want to be.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best strategy that I have had for growing clientele in this nail business is by always remembering that you are your own advertisement and that no one will promote your business like you can so constantly having my nails and feet done so others can see especially when I let them know I do nails.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Advertisement has played the biggest role in getting cleaned building my reputation. I have made business cards, slippers with logo on the ,tshirts with my contact information on there. Social media plays a good role in my reputation too my business page @kr__nails is constantly getting videos and photos uploaded to attract people and to showcase my work.
