We were lucky to catch up with Keionna Adair recently and have shared our conversation below.
Keionna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
With self care products such as body butters, body scrubs, herbal supplements, and many other natural products I find that many people are trying to imitate based on what is popular and not the passion that goes behind making each product from scratch. I began making products to help people put natural back into our skin and bodies. Trends are only for moments self care is for a lifetime.
Keionna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Keionna Adair and I was born in Wichita, KS. I graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelors in Science in Social work, While although social work is extremely important and necessary, I found my true passion came from health and wellness.
I began diving into eating cleaner during college and from eating clean I learned about the importance of what we put on our bodies as well. With research I taught myself about how everything we put on our skin can effect our blood as well. After this discovery I decided to start creating my own body butters and hair serums. After a few friends inquired about purchasing I decided this was something that made me happy. After a failed venture with a friend I went independent and have been making products since. I create body butter, scrubs, hair serums, beard oils, herbal supplements, teas, and much more.
Many problems I have faced is clients understanding with natural and organic comes a higher quality product which means a slightly higher price for healing outcomes.
Something I am most proud of is people being interested in healing and taking care of themselves in the forms of using my products. I love making products and seeing my vision come into fruition.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Starting a business as I did was a perfect timeframe to start. With starting a business and upholding a business you need income. I decided to go back to my 9-5 while running my business. This was a huge Pivot because now the importance shoots towards managing my time in order to keep pushing out products while not overworking myself in order to place love in each item.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
As I stated earlier, I started my business officially during quarantine and while unemployed. I decided to use my unemployment checks to fund my business start up.
