We were lucky to catch up with Keinley Lafleur recently and have shared our conversation below.
Keinley, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Me growing up in a Haitian household, wow also coming up in Miami culture yes surrounded by a diversity of music and art. So just from the jump, I’ve always been exposed to different types of art. For example, from middle school up until my 11th grade in high school, I was in magnet school for visual arts. Just buy me going to magnet school, I was exposed to kids from different parts of Miami, which got me into different taste of music. Also, I also remember just even as a younger age being at my cousins house , watching “the box” video music channel and being glued to different Artist like 2Pac, biggie, Nas and etc.

Keinley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into this industry, simply by my love for hip-hop. I’ve grew up captivated by many different artists and fell in love with the genre at an early age.
Because of my love of music all alike, my heart is to approach creating music with a fresh sound while the same time being faithful to My hip-hop roots. Me being an artist in this age where it’s easy to become an artist, my desire is to provide an alternative. In other words, I want to bring aMe being an artist in this age where it’s easy to become an artist, my desire is to provide an alternative. In other words, I want to bring a fresh move and a sound to the world of hip-hop. I believe now it’s too much going on that has been labeled as Music when it’s truly not. I think my background and upbringing sits me apart from others. Just me as a person always been different. Yes, I’m African-American and was born in raids in Miami, Florida, but always been my own individual with my own type of vibe. For example, I don’t curse as a person, and I don’t try to put curse words in my music because of the people that would listen to my music. Also, I’m a singer/rapper which isn’t new in this age, but set me aside. Also, like I mentioned before I love all types of music, including , certain types of rock, reggae, or just anything cool vibe, which already puts me on a different bracket musically . I truly believe that I can approach this art being from where I’m from without being as violent or cliché as most recording artist are. I take pride and being different. I used to try to shy away from it, but it’s hard to do that especially in this type of genre I’ve learned that the key thing of being an artist is giving people who you truly are and sharing your story.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal ultimately is to leave my imprint on this earth in such a large scale. I just remember as a young child being captivated by Artist like Tupac Shakur, Bob Marley, even Michael Jackson. If there’s anything I learned from each of these icons, is that everyone was made for greatness. I truly believe that I have lessons, teaching, and such a catalog of artistry to offer that can change this world. I want generations to pass, and someone can listen to my music, any movie or film, or even any of my work of literature and be impacted . As cliché it may sounds, I want to change the world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I believe the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is your humanity. People don’t only just want to listen to anything, they want to be heard and want to know that people understand them if I’m trying to be something that I’m not that can be very detrimental not just for me, but just for the masses. me being myself can speak volumes for people who think similar to me. Also, it’s such rewarding to take life experiences and put it on wax and turn it into a work of art. I always say that art is a reflection of life, or should I say a perspective of life. As you were here, my music you were here past experiences through relationships, gone wrong, or gone good; Overcoming heartache, and a pursuit of financial success in the world we live in today. And simply, MUSIC is a release for me. It’s an outlet for me to just let out alongside with writing .
