We recently connected with Keilah Early and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keilah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Impacts has two meanings to me. One is the obvious: my goal is to make a positive impact on people’s lives through improving their relationship with their dogs. The other meaning lies within the word. “Acts” 20:35 in the Bible states “It is more blessed to give than to receive”. I hold that scripture very close to my heart and so “ImpActs” was the perfect name for my business.
Keilah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have had dogs since I was 10 years old and that really fueled my passion for dog training. Like most dog owners, I find it so fun and rewarding to connect with our Canine companions on a deeper level in order to nurture an amazing relationship.
I began training at a very young age and have developed a specialty of obedience training and confidence building for fearful pups. Impacts Dog Training is affordable and accessible to the Inglewood community and surrounding areas and will work diligently to connect owners with their dogs so that they can develop beautiful relationships.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I had a full-time job but began taking a client here and there for dog training. While I had trained my own dogs, I had never done it professionally. One day I posted a video of me training my Cane Corso, Chance, on an app called NextDoor. I expected to get only 1 or 2 interested people. But that post went viral and I had over 100 people inquiring about my dog training services. So I began dedicating more time to training dogs and over time built a following. Social media has been really powerful in the success of my business. But another key to my success is my personal dog. Chance is one of the best things to ever happen to me and is an awesome demo-dog. He has his own social media accounts and is a TikTok influencer which is definitely helpful in growing my business.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I am very active in the Cane Corso community and am an advocate for ethical breeding, training, and giving dogs the opportunity to reach their fullest potential through some type of work like sports, protection, or other outlets. This advocacy has helped build my reputation as someone who is passionate and caring. I also pride myself in being charismatic and providing great customer service to my clients to ensure that I foster a safe space for them to confide in me regarding their experiences with their dog (s).
