We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keila Tyler a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keila, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I became an infusion nurse in 2010, I had been practicing as a nurse for about 6 years and as any new nurse, I was trying to find my way. I instantly found a passion for teaching and educating my patients on hydration and overall wellness, at that time I would travel to patients home. I moved to Atlanta in 2015 and visited a hydration spa, I was instantly inspired, this way I could work as an infusion nurse and still provide education on wellness but from the well side of things versus seeing patients who were chronically ill. I then decided that this is what I would do.
I began to research and connect with other nurses and physicians in this industry. I took several business courses as well as IV hydration courses, but I was still on the fence about branching off on my own. A part of it would say fear was a huge factor. I faced a lot of challenges because the laws are so different for opening a med spa, everything I learned in the beginning I had to basically unlearn and do it correctly. I partnered with a company and was doing ok and that company went under, I then knew it was time to do this full time and on my own. I prayed and everything started aligning. I was able to open my own med spa located in Pearland Tx in June 2023
The advice i would give to anyone wanting to start your own practice is to start. Research, learn and execute. Many mistakes will be made but you learn from them keep going don’t give up, it will work out. Network in the community people are willing to help you just have to put yourself out there
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a registered nurse with over 18 years experience, I initially got into nursing because my Aunt Denny was a nurse and I loved to see her go to work, dressed in her scrubs. She was such an inspiration to me. I later got into aesthetics and wellness and found my passion.
I offer IV hydration and aesthetics to my clients which includes Botox, Fillers, Weight Loss Programs and Wellness Programs. What sets me apart from others is that I’m very open and willing to help. You any come in for hydration and walk out with new goals for your life and health. I’m relatable most obstacles my clients are facing I’m either going through it with them or have success in that area. I provide support in and out of the office and I’m always available for my clients when they need me.
What I am most proud of is my willingness to keep going. If you’re around me I will motivate you I will push you to reach your goals , I want my clients to feel like family like they have a forever home.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy has been actually getting out in the community. Also joining the SBA and business chambers
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes , if I could go back I would choose nursing every time . The field has so many different opportunities and I love it
