We recently connected with Kehinde Mayowa and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kehinde thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Although I was born an artist and I love making drawings right from my tender age, but I never knew I could pursue it professionally until one day, when one of my grandfather’s friends came to visit and he found me making drawings from books illustrations.
He found my drawings so great and flipped the pages of my sketchpad to view some of my previous drawings, and he said to me “ Mayowa , do you know you can actually study this in school? ” he even pointed out some schools he knows that offer the course.
As at that time, I was in SS3 and still contemplating about which path I want to follow, so his statement was like an eyes opener and as the matter of fact I love art , so because of that I proceeded to study General Art from the polytechnic of Ibadan, oyo state Nigeria in 2014 right after my secondary school. School broad my ideals about art and that was when I knew I can take it professionally.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is kehinde mayowa, i am a Nigerian visual artist (painter).
I obtained a Higher National Diploma {H.N.D) in painting art from Auchi polytechnic Auchi, Edo state Nigeria in (2020).
I bring canvases to life using Acrylic on canvas, my works centres on exploring the genuine essence of Africans. Infusing floral patterns into the body of my works which symbolise the beauty of us. I emphasise the significance of the youth in my homeland and the world at large shedding light on their feelings and emotions, experience as well as their bravery, fashion sense and the adversities they courageously confront.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Well for me , apart from the fact that artist experience euphoria from every single work of art they produced, I think another most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when people resonate with your work, when they understand the message or the information passing through a particular work, when they love the work and acquire it.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best way the society can support the artists and the creative individuals is to engage in their creative journey by coming to the art shows , art exhibitions, art fairs, by giving then this kind of platform to talk and showcase their works to more audiences and also by collecting or buying their works.
All these contributes to the growth of the artist and the creative individuals.
