We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keezy Thee Unkind a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keezy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
I think from an artist standpoint I’m very vulnerable but when people meet me or get to know me they think I’m aloof or reserved. I have a hard time trusting and opening to people, especially if they not coming where I’m from or doing the things that I’m doing. What ive learned is it’s okay to be a little “easier on the eyes” & realize not everyone is out there to get me. Sometimes a genuine connection can take you farther than anything else can.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
If you’ve never heard of me I’m KeezyTheeUnkind a female Artist / CEO of Retro Quality Records from Columbus Ohio. I offer management to 6 others artists on our label and I guide and assist them with staying on track when it comes to their musical journey. I tend to solve any problems with rollouts, booking shows, & rehearsing. I think what sets me apart is my dedication to not only my own career but diving into others careers and giving them all the knowledge that I wish I had starting out. What I’m most proud of is the growth in my music sonically and the growth in myself as an artist. There is a BIG difference between wanting to make music and music being apart of you & your everyday life. This isn’t something I do to be cool this is my everyday life. What I want the world to know about me is that I’m COMING! I’ve worked tirelessly in & out of studios to progress my sound so everything after this has to be better. Expect everything to elevate everytime you run across my name.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
FUND US! There are SOOOO many creatives here in the city but the funding is the hardest part. I’ve work 2-3 jobs just fund my music career. I get saying if you want it you gotta go get it but sometimes a little help from the city would be something dope.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Right now I’d say everyone I’ve lost is my motivation, I miss my family so much but your greatest losses can always turn into reward, its all about how you channel that energy.
