We recently connected with Keezy Keese and have shared our conversation below.
Keezy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My album “Professionally in Love”
This album is a reflection on a time in my life when I was dating professional dancers.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
It all started in the third grade when I made my first song and I’ve continued to make music ever since. I first got into the music industry in 2019. My mentor at the time, had a friend who needed to use a studio and I was the only one available. After a successful studio session, I was asked if I wanted to go to Chicago to work with the artist, Jeremih (“Birthday Sex” singer).
My approach to making music is driven by melodic storytelling. I am most proud of the people I’ve met along the way on my journey to build a strong community. Every song that I make is a reflection of my past experiences. I hope my music offers listeners insight into my experiences, allowing them to connect, learn, and realize they are not alone in what they’ve been through.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is when I go out and someone says “Hey man, your music really helped me” or they tell me they’ve seen my content and think it’s dope.
That is one of the biggest payoffs and that is what keeps me going.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I feel like people don’t really understand how much work and dedication it takes to create music. People will see an artist who’s been making music for a long time and ask how come this person isn’t famous yet. The music industry is complex and takes a lot of hard work.
On top of being an independent artist, I have to wear multiple hats. I am the artist, the songwriter, the engineer, the manager. I also have to know how to create content to promote my music and handle publishing and registration to ensure I receive my royalties, all while balancing my primary job to fund my music career.
