We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keem. O.dolla. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keem. below.
Alright, Keem. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project that I’ve worked on is the project that I’m currently working on. It’s called Trauma Related. The purpose of the project is to speak on all of the traumatic experiences that I’ve endured over my lifetime. Everything from being homeless, being shot at, having an anxiety attack while in school and the most recent death of my mother and other family members. I want to make this project to feel like a movie that other people who’ve been through similar situations can relate and can use it to persevere through whatever they maybe dealing with at the time.

Keem., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Keem.O.Dolla, I was born in North St. Louis, but raised in University City by my mother and step father who were both recovering addicts. I started making music in 2014, right after I graduated high school. I originally started with my homie Jai Imani just for fun. Then I started taking making music seriously after my friend Easyy Deuce was murdered in 2016. I think the main thing that separates me from everyone else in music is that I’m a real person that shows the good, the bad and the ugly throughout my social platforms. Life is about the ups and downs. Everybody nowadays just want to share their ups, while I speak about everything. I’m proud of everything I’ve ever experienced, because it helped me become who I am and I can’t hide my reality or hide from it.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I’ve been building my social media audience since 2010. I’ve had the same twitter account since I was 15 years old. I try my best to stay consistent with my engagement rate on there more than instagram. I’m on my 3rd instagram account due to being hacked or kicked out of accounts. In college I was apart of a rap collective called Cooley Bros., which was able to market to an international audience. We made sure all of our content had a purpose or had a call for action, which helped people buy into the group. Now I’m focused on my own audience and I have so much content planned, that catches the eye and causes to have opinion, good or bad. I’m very excited to share it with the world.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist to me is sharing your art to the world and people truly appreciating it. I currently release mixtapes on SoundCloud because that’s what I grew up on as a child. If you had a hard song on a mixtape, you’ll see it blow up or it blew up strictly with your fan base. I get so excited when I see or get tagged in random posts with my music. It’s like they truly rock with me because you had to go find it on SoundCloud instead of just going on ITunes or Spotify.
