We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keely Lopez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keely below.
Keely, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero in my industry is Sarah Turney, Sarah has changed the ideas and ethics that come with true crime content. She is the sister of Alissa Turney a teen who went missing on May 17th 2001 she has successfully used social media and podcasting to help bring justice for her sister. Now she continues to use podcasting to help raise awareness and support other missing persons and unsolved cases.
Not only this but she has continued to push true crime content creators to question what they are sharing and how they can be ethical which helped me to really understand what I am creating affects others. That what I make can bring a change and hopefully bring justice or peace.

Keely, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the host of a true crime and paranormal podcast called Misty Mysteries which makes me an independent podcaster. I am everything behind my podcast from host, editor, writer and social media manager. I am also on the executive board for the Darkcast Network where along with my team I help promote other independent podcasts, create special projects for the many podcasts we have signed on, I help create chats for the network and many other things. My podcast focuses on missing persons and unsolved cases, I am most proud of the work I have done that helps the family of victims have a voice among their struggle and share their loved ones story.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media is hard to navigate especially when you first begin, my best advice I would give to anyone starting off is have patience when building your audience. I think it’s important to push through and build an audience of real followers over bought followers since this will affect how much interaction you truly have on social media. The more interactions you have will help promote your product or content. I started off by just following others in the industry learn how they all interacted with each other and start to build friendships with them. Through these friendships I was able to collaborate with others and build an audience of people who wanted to listen to the podcast. Then I was able to get people sharing my content and links for my merchandise.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped me build a reputation for myself and the podcast in the industry was my empathy for others. Through kind and professional but also personal interaction with others I was able build up a reputation of someone that people could come to for not only collaborations, but promotions. Most importantly I believe I have created a safe space for families that are searching for justice and that is the reputation I am most proud of
