We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kee Silly. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kee below.
Kee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
As a child I’ve always seen myself on a big stage being an entertainer. I’ve tried basketball, singing, dancing, even poetry, but none of those were my passion. I was always funny coming up as a kid, and I’ve always had a love for making people feel good about themselves. Particularly Making people laugh always made me feel like I was on a cloud! In 2018, no matter what job I was working, I found myself unhappy. I got tired of struggling and I wanted more out of life for myself and my family. I started to listen to Nipsey Hussle and it changed everything. Listening to his lyrics and interviews really made me feel like I could do it. His intelligence pushed me to strive to do it professionally. I put a plan together, I took a leap of faith and started my comedy journey. I haven’t looked back since.

Kee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is KeeSilly, born and raised here in Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve been on this comedy journey since February 2020 where I had an opportunity to perform my first set at the Funny Stop Comedy club. I got into this profession because I’ve been surrounded by comedy my whole life. In school I was deemed class clown. I always felt like you could solve problems by making others laugh. Within comedy, i saw more. I wanted to give my supporters other ways to contribute as I began to gain a following. I learned from one of my cousins how to print tshirts and came up with my logo and business Steele Wave Entertainment.
I find myself most proud of the journey itself and despite any challenges that come my way, I refuse to give up.
Above anything else, before I’m a comedian, I am a person. I’m a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, BUT i will always keep a smile on your face.

Have you ever had to pivot?
It was my very first time on stage. I’ve never done this professionally. I reached out to someone about possibly getting an opportunity on stage and he told me to write a five minute set, remember it, and be ready to perform.
I wrote a five minute set and remember it from top to bottom. I promote to everyone to come out to my first show. I got there, and right before we go on stage, we were all told we could not use any profanity or vulgar words. With no time to alter my set, I just prayed and went on stage and did a complete, clean comedy set.
The owner gave multiple compliments, with admiration that I could be able to switch my set with no time to rehearse. At that moment I knew this was a gift, and that was the start of my stand up comedy career.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
There’s many goals that I have, but there’s only one mission. Some of my goals consist of giving back to my community. To execute that I’ve had a few opportunities to do give aways and support those who support me. The one mission that I have, is to change my family’s life, and to eventually change the world, one smile at a time.
