We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kedrin Meehan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kedrin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents were both in the medical field and truly passionate about their work — but the honest truth is, they were rarely home. I was largely raised by a nanny. And as a kid, you notice that.
What it gave me though was this relentless drive. I’ve had a job since I was a teenager. I skipped high school football games to go to work. My parents modeled that dedication without even realizing it.
But they also taught me something unintentional — that putting work before everything, including your family, is a choice. And it’s one I’ve decided I won’t make.
So what did they do right? They gave me the work ethic and the proof that dedication gets you somewhere. And they gave me the clarity to know that doesn’t have to cost you everything else.
I’m so grateful that in what I do now, I get to show up fully in my career and be present for my husband and my child. Getting to have both — that’s everything to me.

Kedrin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Kedrin Meehan, owner of Lashes by Kedrin in Nashville. My journey into the beauty industry started from a personal place — I struggled with acne and originally wanted to get into skincare and aesthetics. I attended Veda Beauty School and graduated in 2018, but finding work in such a saturated industry proved harder than expected. I took the only job offered to me — at a lash studio — despite having zero interest in eyelash extensions at the time. That decision changed everything. I fell completely in love with the craft, invested in additional training on my own, practiced relentlessly on free models, and slowly built a clientele that allowed me to leave bartending behind and go full-time in 2020.
I specialize in eyelash extensions, lash lifts, and brow laminations, with a signature style that is natural and effortless. My work is designed to enhance what you already have — not transform you into someone unrecognizable. I’m the lash artist for the everyday girl who wants to wake up looking polished without looking overdone.
Beyond the services, I pride myself on the experience. Every client gets treated like a rockstar. Whether it’s your weekly fill or your once-in-a-lifetime bridal appointment, you deserve to feel special. My studio is a relaxing, judgment-free space where you can nap, vent, laugh, or just decompress — whatever you need that day. A lot of my clients joke that I’m part lash artist, part therapist, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’d love to see you, your girlfriends, your grandma, and your aunt — everyone is welcome.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I genuinely believe every single appointment matters. It doesn’t matter if someone comes in every three weeks or if it’s their first time ever getting lashes done — they get the same level of care, attention, and warmth every time. That consistency is everything. People can feel when they’re valued, and I think that energy keeps clients coming back and sending their people my way. A huge portion of my business has grown through word-of-mouth referrals, which is honestly the biggest compliment I could receive. My reputation is built one appointment at a time, and I never take that for granted.

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
As a business owner, there is no shortage of scary moments — that just comes with the territory. But this one was particularly unforgettable. Going full-time in 2020 felt like the leap of faith I had been working toward for years, and then almost immediately, COVID hit. Being a brand new business owner, this was probably my first truly terrifying experience. I had already left my bartending job, so I had no fallback income and couldn’t qualify for the unemployment relief many others received. What was supposed to be two weeks turned into roughly three months of complete shutdown with no income and no idea when it would end.
Honestly, what got me through it was faith. I had taken this leap of faith to pursue something I truly loved, and I just held on to the belief that God would not push me in the wrong direction after I had trusted Him with that step. I prayed, I leaned on that faith heavily, and I waited. When businesses were finally allowed to reopen, I came back busier than I had ever been. I am so incredibly thankful — for the clients who came back, for the business that survived, and for being reminded that the leap was absolutely worth it.
