We recently connected with Kedrick King and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kedrick thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
Yes! I am a firm believer that the right Boss/Mentor can completely change your life, if you listen. Although I’ve worked very hard to get where I am now, I can 1000% say I would not be here if it were not for my broker, David Pridgen. I’m sure there a several amazing Brokers in Maryland, but I feel that David Pridgen is the best. He truly wants to see his agents win, and does everything in his power to help us do so. He is selfless, extremely knowledgeable, always available, and an all around great leader. When I first joined our brokerage, I was a young kid who knew absolutely nothing about real estate. I remember sitting down for the first time with David and him saying, “you can do extremely well in this business if you put in the work”. It was extremely inspiring for me to sit in front of a successful man whose background and image was similar to mine. So everyday I picked his brain and followed his guidance on how to become a great agent. There were some long nights and early mornings, but he continued to tell me it would all pay off…and he was right!
Fast forward to five and a half years later, I’ve started The King Homes Group and we are currently a team of 7 agents. Because of David, I pride myself on putting in the work everyday and giving the agents on the team the same amount of support and energy that he gave me. They say the sign of a great mentor is when the mentee is able to pass down the knowledge to someone else, and judging by myself and the success of the team I think its safe to say that David Pridgen is pretty great.
Kedrick , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in kinesiology but did not have any desire to continue my education past college, which is needed for this degree. Once I graduated, I landed an entry-level corporate position which I was ecstatic about, but I quickly learned the corporate life was not for me. I wanted to be my own person, my own boss, as I was not a fan of working hard for others and receiving minimal reward/satisfaction in return… I wanted something more!
I love helping people, and I have always had an eye for beautiful homes, so my now wife asked, “Why don’t you apply for your real estate license?” I applied, passed my exam, and the rest is history! One of the best decisions I have ever made.
I am a realtor and team lead of The King Homes Group. We specialize in “Changing Lives.” From investment to luxury we are here to help families reach their real estate goals. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile and never stopping, even when the deal is done. We set ourselves apart by being knowledgeable, technology-based, always available, and providing exceptional customer service to make sure the client has an awesome real estate experience.
If I had to choose one thing that I am most proud of, it would be forming a team of like minded individuals that all share the same goal. We are here to assist families and be seen as one of the top real estate teams in Maryland.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My answer would be my commitment and dedication to my clients. I truly care about each and every client that I have worked with. I try my best to not only provide the best real estate experience possible but also provide as much knowledge as I possibly can. For most people, purchasing a home is the largest investment they will ever make and having someone trust me to guide them through the process is not something I take lightly. I will always go the extra mile for my clients. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients happy!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Show up everyday how you would want your team to show up! Push the narrative of staying committed as real estate is a long term game. But also, have fun. I take my job very seriously but the team also knows I love tequila and a good time! Finding a balance is key to a building a great team.
