We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keder LeBeau. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keder below.
Hi Keder, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Since a very young age I drew comics and I could never get it out of my head. However, since then I had to start pursuing the degree I studied in design, moving away from my original goal and although I continued feeding my social networks with illustrations, I still remained very far from the original goal. A few years later I received my first proposal to draw a comic. Without giving it a second thought, I accepted it, the problem was that I still kept my job as a designer and I couldn’t dedicate the time it deserves. A month later I had to make the important decision to abandon my job as a designer and dedicate myself 100% to my initial goal: Drawing comics.
And it has been the best decision of my life!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Part of my job is to create new worlds with original characters and to be able to carry out the ideas of a creator with pencil and paper, and together we can give life to stories of any type.
How I got on the industry? Working hard and learning from everything around me.
Personally, being surrounded by so much talent motivates me to continue progressing and learning from all these great artists. That keeps me on the path to reach my goal although in this area you never finish learning something new. And that’s what I like most about being a comic artist, as time goes by things simply improve but always with great effort.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of my biggest goals is to be able to work for a great company such as Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics or IDW. They were the ones who sparked this passion for drawing since they were present in my early life with their great characters such as the X-Men, Superman, Spawn, T.M.N.T, to name a few.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
In current times, social networks have become a tool that is part of the job this helps you to target your audience. The most advisable thing is to be constant and rely on trends in order to have a greater reach and create an audience since this is the first step: generating a community.
For example: today there are digital platforms to be able to publish your comic for free on the internet and this helps a lot since these applications have a specific audience and you don’t have the need to print the material.
