We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keatley Jael. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keatley below.
Keatley , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I got my first client when I was 17. I have been doing this womans hair since. My fist $60 going toward my business that a family member or friend didnt give. In 2014 i started taking my business seriously and really began to manage my money so the business can grow.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Keatley Jael has been doing hair since the age of 10 and her work tells that story. She started her business in 2014 because she realized that there are many women who don’t have a safe haven to really meet their hair needs. Therefore, she wanted to provide quality raw hair extensions and handmade products that are easy to access and can change the way women shop with a trusted brand. She is a graduate of Regency Beauty Institute, Gwynnis Mosby Makeup
Academy and a Certified Cranial Prosthesis Specialist.
With her hair and makeup talents she has graced the stages of many fashion shows such as ATL Fashion Week NYC Fashion Week, Wedding shows and more. She has also worked with celebrities such as Lisa Nicole, Dr. Jackie, Dwight Ubanks, Javon Johnson. Tv/Movie and Photoshoot sets are also a second home to her as her work is very diverse.
Jaels Beauty provides hair and skin services to the public. Hair extensions, Silk Presses, Treatments, Custom Wigs and more.
We are known for our handmade products and custom wigs and that’s what
I think sets us apart from our competiters. I am most proud of our product brand and how far it has come. I want your readers to know that they can shop with us online and check out our social media!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Early in my career i was doing braids relaxers updos ponytails and more. I was really just doing anything to get a client any style any color sales discounts and more. I didn’t realize that I didn’t like doing all those styles I only like extensions. The more I did extensions frequently the more I realized that the amount of time and money doing extensions is not equivalent to doing braids and other styles that were also hurting my hands and creating arthritis. So I stopped completely with the random styles and sales and discounts. And started only doing extensions. Now that extensions are my main niche I have more time on my hands with more income. I am also able to focus on wigs and extensions only instead of keeping up with the trends of 50 other styles.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new income and new clients has come from a social media. Back in the day we only had word of mouth and that limited you to the clientele that you can receive. Now we have free advertising on millions of platforms that include Facebook and Instagram Snapchat and more.
