We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keath Silva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keath below.
Alright, Keath thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
When I first got my massage license, I thought I needed to cater to what everyone wanted instead of practicing the healing modalities that I was passionate about. Many potential clients wanted sports massage, Swedish massage and deep tissue massage, so that is what I offered. I had been trained in some niche healing modalities that were not necessarily known or accepted in mainstream health care, that I really wanted to share with my clients. These modalities an integration of Maya Abdominal Massage, Energy work, Herbalism and Shamanic Healing. About 7 years into my private practice, I decided to take the risk and started publicizing the type of work I really wanted to be doing. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that many people were interested in my preferred healing modalities. Even though many people were enjoying the types of sessions that are in alignment with my true purpose, I was still thinking that I needed to keep offering the mainstream work to pay the bills and be “legitimate”. However, my heart kept telling me that it was time to focus on what I really knew was my calling and I finally took the leap. I stopped taking clients who were not comfortable with my authentic style of working. I am very happy that I listened to my heart and took this risk. It was really scary to say no to someone of my paying clients but I walked through the fear so I could be true to myself and my destined work. That was over a decade ago and my private practice is now entirely focused on my unique, outside-the-box methods and it is thriving. It is really inspiring to live my truth, knowing that my work may not be for everyone, but that many people do love it and benefit from it. My practice is the greatest joy in my life and fulfills me with much meaning and purpose as I witness people healing, growing and finding more ease in their lives.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Keath Silva. I am a non-binary, transgender healing arts practitioner and a poet. Beginning in my childhood, I had a strong spiritual perception, empathy for others and a desire to offer healing. I also began writing poetry as a teenager. I began my career as a healing arts practitioner after I took my first Reiki class. The people I practiced on told me they thought I had a special gift. I then met some amazing healers in Belize, Central America who practiced Maya Healing which really inspired me. I went to massage school, and herbal medicine school and studied under the healers in Belize and other traditional healers and then opened my own practice. I offer Bodywork, Ancestral Lineage Healing, Herbalism and Shamanic Healing. I help people to find ease in their bodies, connect with their intuition, re-center themselves in the truth of who they are, clear their energetic space, heal passed wounds, release stuck emotions, become more grounded and present and align with their true calling in life. My work stands out because of my decades of experience, my extensive training, my deep compassionate capacity of listening and holding space and my inherent healing gifts.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, If I could go back, I would absolutely choose the healing arts as my profession. It has been very rewarding and inspirational.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My most effect method of building clientele in my healing arts practice has been wonderful customer service. I give each client the best possible service throughout their whole experience booking, receiving the session and followup. They then recommend me to people.
