Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keary Alaniz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Keary, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned how to record, mix, and master music at Hocking College in the Music Management program. In order to speed up the learning process I volunteered and looked for side work in the audio engineering field. The most essential skills that I have are mixing, beat-making, and playing instruments. This includes songwriting, playing piano, guitar, and bass and having the knowledge to work in music recording programs such as Pro Tools, and Ableton. Going through college is tough, and I think most nineteen-year-olds would find it challenging to leave home in order to pursue formal training in their creative passion. However, it is a life decision that has paid off.
Keary, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Keary Alaniz, and I am a musical artist. I started playing various instruments and learning to produce my own music at a young age. I have an associate’s degree in music management from Hocking College. I record artists for an hourly rate, and I also provide mixing and mastering services as well as beat-making. I am also trained in live sound engineering. What sets me aside from other music producers is that I have formal training. I have done years of rigorous learning in the field. I am most proud of my diligence, which has allowed me to pick up music and accomplish various works in multiple genres. I produce music both for myself and for other artists as their producer. I want potential clients and fans to know that I am seriously dedicated to achieving groundbreaking success in the music industry. I am not giving up until my voice is heard, and I will always be an advocate for non-violence and standing up as a mentor for the youth.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by focusing on the content that my followers enjoy. Instead of paying for followers I have tried to consistently provide new music and content for the listeners based on the organic responses I’m getting. I first started uploading music to SoundCloud in 2014, and when I got a decent number of views I decided to keep going. Since then, I’ve worked hard to build a following on Instagram, Twitter, and Tik-tok. In May of 2022, I went viral on Tik-tok for posting a video of a Chewy manager ringing cowbells at employees on their break at my job where I was working at the time. The viral moment which was seen by millions has helped me get a lot of exposure. If I was just starting a new social media page today, then I would go follow about a hundred accounts that are related to what I’m interested in. Then, I would try and collaborate with other people and use cross posting and tagging in order to reach a wider audience. Always network with people you know in real life first. Working with my business partner Kiki Marie has significantly helped boost my audience and engagement. We travel to different cities and states and even outside the country in order to network with other creatives.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a music producer is making a change in people’s lives by helping create the vision that they have. I get just as much enjoyment out of producing for other artists as I do for myself. By listening and being receptive to what the audience wants to hear I’ve been able to make waves online and in the music world. Receiving criticism and positive feedback is what really drives the art towards greatness. I don’t believe any musician single handedly knows what everyone wants to hear. Therefore, it is important and rewarding to seek out the thoughts and opinions of your audience. I am always seeking out what people like and what will appeal to them. Performing on stage is one of the biggest rushes I’ve ever felt. In 2021 I decided to quit drinking, and now I can happily say I no longer drink or use any drugs. Music is a natural high to me, and I don’t know any better feeling than creating and sharing my music for the world to enjoy.
