We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keandra Barry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Keandra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
I would change the way it’s ran. I would put more hands on projects. I would like schools to implement meditation and affirmations in school. I want to bring back cooking, wood shop, machinery, and mechanical engineering. I think if they leave out of school with a skill they wouldn’t fill rushed to get it right. I also think starting them young. I want kids to be kids and not just sit there and be quiet. Kids need to be able to express themselves and I don’t see that much in schools now a days.
Keandra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a wife and a mother of four. I graduated with a associate degree in science. I love writing, dancing, and helping others. I have written a couple of books and have music out stream on all platforms. I got into entrepreneurship because I was always passionate about being my own boss. I never felt like everything I have done in my life made me happy. So I wanted to put my life into my own hands and see where it took me. What sets me apart from alot of people is that I’m not afraid to fail ” first attempt in learning” if one thing doesn’t work out I just move to the next, hey I’m a Gemini ” we all over the place” I have done a party business, moving and cleaning company, I have written books did music, hell even started making clothes. I had a traveling boutique, none of it was a success as of now but god willing it will work itself out.
I most proud of me not giving up. Showing my children that if I can do it you can too. Teaching them early about being bosses.
I want to stick to 1 or 2 things and they become all that I imagined. I want to be comfortable enough that I’m sitting on my own land watching my grandchildren work in my garden and playing.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Ok so LOVE right is a big lesson I learned over the past two years is something totally different then what I thought it was. You can love the world but do it love you back is the question? Back story- I lost my brother Rashun Black May of 2019. This opened my eyes and showed people true selves. I relieved that I am enough and I can’t help and be in control all the time. It’s ok to love from a distance. Loyalty is more powerful then love.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
You have to just be yourself. You will have people that love you and people that hate you! Your authentic self will attract the audience your pushing for.
