Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Keana Mumford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Keana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to be successful in my opinion, you have to stay consistent. You have to be willing to be open to new ideas and new ways. I also think its important to network, coming together with others and sharing ideas has been very helpful for me.

Keana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My Name is Keana Mumford, I am a wife and mother of 5, I first started Keana Made It in April of 2020 during the pandemic. I began making and customizing shirts and uniforms for my family. I decided to post my work on my personal social media pages and started receiving my first orders. By May I had done over 70 orders just of social media and FB marketplace. Those orders came easily, and we bought more equipment to help me work more efficiently. After the mothers day rush things slowed down for me a bit, but the rush was all I needed to stay focused and creative. I had to think of a name, come out with ideas and mock ups to sell items for fathers day. I had to learn how to set up business pages on social media and produce content. I started a YouTube also called KeanamadeIt to help other self taught creatives and to track my own journey. As time went on I decided I much rather create my own line of designs verses creating one off shirts. It took a lot of time and customizing for someone to only want one shirt. That created a problem for me. I was no longer able to justify spending hours on customizing and making a shirt that took hours to make for $30. I started to make my own designs and let the costumers know that they can change colors etc. That’s how I progressed to selling my items online at Keanamadeit.com. Looking back on it all I am most proud because I am a self taught creative, I learned how to market, how to create content, run ads, use social media to my advantage, take pictures edit pictures, I’ve hosted pop up shops and more all within my first year. I appreciate all the love and continued support from everyone whos ever done business with me. I also try to pass on as much as I know to the next person.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I started of with a vinyl cutting machine purchased new on Macari at a discounted price, and bought a used easy press from market place. Once I began making money from sells I purchased more used equipment from FB marketplace.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that just because I like something doesn’t mean others will. It has been plenty of times I’ve created something and got zero interest on it. That can be extremely difficult when you are really hoping for sales. especially when you have monthly subscriptions needed to run your business properly.
