We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful KD Ramirez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with KD below.
KD, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
I think my story with coaching starts way before I ever thought it did. It’s really interesting when I take the time to reflect on my personal story + am met with vivid memories that make my journey to becomming a coach make complete sense. It was the middle of 2021, though, where everything came to a head. I remember experiencing my own personal breakthroughs during my earlier stages of receiving support through coaching + how I never wanted to stop feeling those feelings. Feelings of helping myself + others transform into elevated versions of themselves + ultimately giving themselves the freedom to live fully + authentically.
Just like I would with any major decision, my choice to pursue coaching came after plenty of deliberation + prayer. Ultimately, it was trusting myself + taking a leap of faith that got the ball rolling. Setting up my own business was daunting. I had done it before, but this time was different. I was on my own + in an industry that I was still learning so much about. My earliest days of building my practice were filled with trial & error, learning and unlearning, patience, letting go, trusting myself, leaning on my support system + just going for it. Knowing what I know now, I would remind my younger entrepreneurial self to stay true to who you are, take a deep breath + things don’t have to be perfect to move forward. Forging your own path takes a lot of bravery + grit to keep going, but you already have what it takes to do it + so much more.
My advice to any young professional who might be considering starting their own business is if you have a dream that speaks to your heart day in + day out, go for it!! We’re given a unique intuition + when your purpose comes knocking, you have to answer! Life is not a dress rehearsal so you only get one chance to go after what you truly desire. Remember, failure is part of the process and what is meant for you cannot be taken by anyone else. Keep dreaming big. You’ve got this.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
If this is the first time you’re getting to know me, hello! Thank you for being here + taking some time to learn about my story. At my core, I am a first-generation Filipina American. I am a very proud South Florida native, millennial dog mom + certified Life Coach. I first entered the coaching industry as a client + quickly realized coaching was where my passion met my purpose. Like many clients, I went into coaching knowing very little about what it entailed or what the possible outcomes were. What I did know was that I was ready for a change & was struggling getting to where I wanted to go. It was through my own experience receiving coaching that I came to the decision to pursue it as a career.
Now, I am dedicated to helping adults shed limiting beliefs and alleviate pains rooted in cultural and generational trauma in order to live full + authentic lives. I help clients accomplish their personal and professional goals by helping them create habits + systems that support elevated, healthier lifestyles. It is my passion to inspire my clients to find the answers within themselves + experience the growth necessary to live out their dreams.
I offer one to one sessions, group coaching sessions and hybrid healing workshops. My one on one clients have the freedom to meet with me in the office or virtually, receiving an extremely customized experience to work on their individual goals. Clients who join my group sessions inherit the benefit of being part of a community of like-minded people who share a unique strength through their shared experiences. Our hybrid healing workshops allow our clients to experience all the benefits of group coaching with the added bonus of various wellness services such as therapy, yoga, etc.
Most of my clients arrive with the feeling of being “stuck”. They can be stuck in life, in career, in relationship, in a mental rut, in never-ending financial problems, etc. They all, whether they come in knowing it or not, want to move forward + get past the obstacles that are standing between their old way of doing things and a healthier, happier life. What I wish more clients knew about coaches is that we are not in the business of giving you advice or telling you what to do. An experienced, professional coach will follow the client’s lead + remind them that they are the experts when it comes to their life. Coaching is also not an easy fix. It would be a mistake to start your coaching journey thinking one session could fix all your problems, the same way it would be to expect fitness competition results after going to the gym for 30 minutes.
Everyone’s coaching journey looks different, but all of them take time + require your commitment. My job, as a coach, is to meet you where you are + guide you through a journey looking inward and forward. What sets Discovering Dawn Coaching apart from other practices, besides ICF certified training, is our invaluable life experience. It is because of our unique stories that we are able to offer the best service to our clients. Our mission is to provide a safe, judgement free environment where our clients feel encouraged to do the work it takes to grow, heal and find their definition of success.
We are so proud to be a part of a community dedicated to helping others succeed + fulfill their dreams. Our clients and supporters are truly the best part of us + we have so much gratitude for each one of you. If you or anyone you know could benefit from joining our community, please reach out. As long as you have a pulse, you have a purpose.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
In order to thrive as a coach, it’s essential to recognize that success extends beyond just knowledge + training. While expertise is crucial, the ability to adapt + evolve with changing trends and technologies is equally important. Building a strong network of contacts + mentors can open doors and provide valuable insights. Additionally, a relentless work ethic, determination, and resilience are vital. Taking this into account, successful coaches should also practice self care and prioritizing their personal needs. Success often involves taking risks + embracing innovation. Being able to communicate effectively, think creatively + demonstrate consistent dedication to your goals will set you apart in this industry.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing your clientele starts with showing up authentically. When you take the time to grow the confidence in who you are + what you offer as a coach, you will attract the right clients + community for you. It is important to prioritize building strong, meaningful relationships with your current clients + leveraging word-of-mouth marketing. An online presence can also attract your targeted audience. Alongside these efforts, I’ve found attending networking events + collaborating with other local businesses to be my most preferred way of building community. Nothing beats showing up for others to experience you in-person. Ultimately, a combination of exceptional service, word-of-mouth referrals, and strategic digital and in-person marketing efforts can help you steadily grow your clientele.
