We were lucky to catch up with KC Sips recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, KC thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Great question! Overall yes, I am happier as a creative, but I do still have a regular job. Thankfully, my job encourages me to follow what I am passionate about, so I have more than enough time to focus on my creative endeavors.
There was a point where all I had was a regular job, and I was not happy. I woke up, went to work, came home and did it all over again the next day. This created the need for a creative outlet in my life. Once the pandemic hit, I started working from home and things were just getting worse. After everything, I was set to make 2021 the year where my life was going to go through major changes. I did just that, I quit the job I wasn’t happy at and I found a creative outlet that worked for me.
I have always had a passion for something within the creative field. I went to college for photography but quickly realized it wasn’t something that I wanted as a career. Life has taken me on a wild ride to get where I am today, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
In March of 2021 my husband and I went out for what felt like the first time in over a year. That night we talked about all our favorite local KC places and the memories that were tied to each place. We joked about how cool it would be to have a page dedicated to local spots with our favorite drinks. The next day I woke up and scrolled through Instagram trying to find a place for a morning latte. After about 30 minutes, I remembered what we had talked about the night before and I just went for it. That is when KC Sips first hit the scene.
Over the years I have come across foodie or coffee pages on Instagram but I had never seen a page dedicated to only drinks. I always hoped I would find one because sometimes you just need some inspiration on where to find some new fresh drinks.
I am proud of all the work that I have put towards KC Sips as well as thankful for all the great experiences and amazing people I have been able to connect with. My favorite thing about the page is connecting with people. I love talking with my followers, whether it is to give recommendations or having them tell me about their experience somewhere local.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is connecting with other people. I love talking with my followers, whether it is giving recommendations, supporting their endeavors or talking about their experience somewhere local. I like to think that I bring a little bit of life with each post. For me, each post reminds me of the memories made while I was there. It reminds me to live in the moment and enjoy each second with whoever I was there with.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My main goal with KC Sips is to highlight as many local businesses in Kansas City as possible. Whether it is coffee, cocktails, lemonade or boba. I love to try new places, so why not share some of the hidden gems that I have found with other people who enjoy the same thing.
I also made it a goal to not review places in any of my posts or stories. We all have different taste preferences, so who am I to tell someone that a particular drink isn’t good? I want people to have their own experience and for them to try something new and different. Even if they don’t like it, at least they will never wonder “what if”.
