We caught up with the brilliant and insightful KBR a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, KBR thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have been a creative my entire life. From a very young age, I had a huge passion for singing and also had other hobbies such as making videos with my siblings, writing songs, and photography. Throughout my teens I really began to embrace my love for art in my hobbies but it wasn’t until about 17/18 that I decided to pursue art & media professinally.
KBR, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is KBR and I am a photographer, musician, and videographer. I also founded Contagion Media Art Agency, which showcases artists of all mediums. Collectively, our team specializes in commercial content creation for websites, magazines, and social media. Our mission as a company is to help art and artists more important in the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is the connection you get to experience with people who appreciate your art. Art is something that builds compassion in the world. Everyone has experienced a song, painting, or movie, or any type of art piece that has made them feel something. Art is a beautiful reminder of the varying emotions that come with being alive. Art is. a beautiful reminder that you are not alone in various ways.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
As an artist, we put our emotions and soul into any art we create. Because of this, artists often struggle with putting a price on their art or a challenge with accepting money for their creations. However, our society consumes endless art every day. Artists are important and Contagion Media has always focused on helping artists break the “starving artist” stereotype. This stereotype has already become less relevant since Contagion Media was founded (in 2018) and our mission is to continue the growth for artists everywhere.
