Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaysha Rajani. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kaysha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I often reflect on the time when I started my business and question whether the timing was right. Initially, I would quickly say that I wished I had started it when I was younger, so I could have enjoyed the benefits of business ownership sooner, such as having a flexible schedule and being my own boss.
However, I now realize that I would not have been prepared to launch a business without my prior experience and knowledge in marketing and communications. Skills such as meeting deadlines, managing customer expectations, and creative problem-solving have all transferred from my previous roles in project management to my gifting business. I am grateful for the over fifteen years I spent developing a strong work ethic and being part of a team before taking the leap to work for myself.
Entrepreneurship is both exciting and fulfilling, but it can also take a significant mental toll when you are the sole person responsible for every decision. Each day, I juggle multiple roles—gift designer, production manager, bookkeeper, social media coordinator, sales director, and more. This requires me to continuously push myself to learn, grow, evolve and step outside my comfort zone for the sake of the business. These challenges demand a great deal of courage and maturity, both of which would have posed obstacles had I launched the business too early.
This month marks the third anniversary of my business, and as I look back on the journey, I am grateful that the timing was just right! I have built a brand that genuinely represents who I am, guided by my vision and creative choices. I remain passionate about gifting every day and look forward to ongoing learning and growth. I am also excited about building a community of supporters who encourage my business goals and inspire me to dream big!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Like many others during the pandemic, I began to reflect on my career and consider what I wanted to do with my life. I craved a position that offered more flexibility and allowed me to take ownership of something I could nurture and grow.
Gifting has always been my love language, and as everything shut down, I quickly realized how it could be used to build relationships. Many businesses were seeking ways to connect with clients and employees who were working remotely, and gifting proved to be a strategic approach to capture their attention in a thoughtful way.
At that time, local options for corporate gifting were limited to branded merchandise or generic baskets filled with nuts and dried fruit. I identified this as a problem I wanted to solve for my clients. I aimed to offer mass gifts that were exciting and unique — items that were tailored to align with their brand and coordinated by theme, color, or product. I realized that businesses would appreciate the convenience of outsourcing their gifting needs to a service that could handle the entire process, from design to delivery. Thus, my business, Curated Giftables was created!
Fast forward to today, and now I’ve had the honor of creating gifts for many businesses across various industries including agriculture, education, real estate, construction, healthcare, and more. Curated Giftables is based in California’s Central Valley and takes a modern approach to corporate and event gifting. You can think of us as your outsourced gifting pro! Whether you’re an HR manager, a busy event planner, or leading a new sales or marketing initiative, we work as an extension of your team.
Our custom gifts are designed to fit any brand aesthetic or event theme with thoughtfully selected, high-quality products and packaging that leave a memorable impression and help our clients create lasting relationships.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Many of my new clients have found my services through networking, both in-person and online via social media. The power of networking is a valuable skill that has significantly contributed to the growth of my business. Social media has made it so easy to share photos and videos of my gifts and to build a community of potential clients.
I encourage other entrepreneurs to take advantage of opportunities to connect within their industry and local community. Attend events you’re invited to, seek out a mentor, and join professional and social organizations. Even if it pushes you outside your comfort zone, it’s worthwhile! You never know who you might meet who could benefit from your product or service or who might connect you with someone else in need.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I started my business, my goal was to provide a concierge gifting service for individuals who either didn’t have the time or the desire to buy and wrap their gifts. My idea was to ask clients for their gift recipients’ preferences and then create custom boxed gifts tailored to those preferences.
However, I soon realized that the process was very time-consuming. I spent hours in local stores and browsing online to curate the perfect gift for each recipient. Additionally, I had to purchase everything at retail prices because I couldn’t meet the wholesale minimums. As a result, offering this service wasn’t very profitable.
Consequently, I decided to pivot my business model. Instead of focusing on individual gifts, I shifted my attention to curating mass gifts based on my clients’ needs. This transition to providing large-scale gifting services for businesses and the event industry turned out to be a much better fit.
