We were lucky to catch up with Kaylyn Lovin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kaylyn, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
When I was 15 I began my career as a runway model, spending years in a career that was fast-paced and demanding in its own way. The transition from modeling to joining the military wasn’t easy, I had to push myself in ways I never had before. Learning how to respond quickly, stay calm under pressure, and help people in real time gave me a sense of purpose that I hadn’t realized I was looking for. It was a big shift, but one that made sense for me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always believed in the power of self-growth and refusing to stay stuck in one place for too long. Life is a constant process of learning and evolving. There’s always more to explore, more to achieve, and more ways to grow. There’s always a new skill to learn a new country to visit and new people to meet. Make your brain a sponge and never stop absorbing and learning. If you feel stagnant make a plan no matter how small or big and take a leap of faith.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A defining moment of resilience in my life was when my life came to a halt after receiving some devastating news. Unsure of how to move forward I made the decision to join the military, determined to rebuild myself.
But my journey didn’t get easier. During training, I suffered a devastating injury, breaking both of my hips. The fear of losing my career before it even began was overwhelming. Yet, I refused to give up. Through relentless determination, I pushed forward—rucking over 40 miles, enduring grueling training, and proving to myself that resilience isn’t just about physical strength. It’s about the will to keep moving forward, even when everything—your mind and your body tells you to stop. As I graduated and moved forward in my career, receiving rehabilitation for my injuries, I find a sense of pride in my determination to keep going.
Today, I share my story for the mothers who never got to meet their children, for those carrying the weight of loss, and for anyone who feels like their journey has come to an end. You are not alone. It’s about taking one step at a time, even when it feels impossible. No matter how dark things seem, brighter days are ahead—but you have to keep pushing forward.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Something in my life i’ve had to unlearn is self doubt . When Lent came around, I struggled to find something meaningful to give up. The only thing that kept coming to mind was my own lack of confidence. So, I decided to let go of self-doubt and focus on trusting myself, even when I wasn’t entirely sure. This has played a key role in my success and ability to succeed.
