We were lucky to catch up with Kaylin Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kaylin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to be successful I believe it takes commitment and consistency. The road to success is not linear, most of the times it’s a BUMPY road. It’s important to stay the course and remember where you want to be as well as why you’re working so hard. I originally started my business in Illinois and after about six month, I decided to move my business to Missouri. I was leaving behind clients, money, and comfort. September of 2022 was my first month in Missouri and that entire month I only serviced 35 clients. Before moving I averaged 60 a month. But I did not let this process discourage me. I continued to show up, even when I did not have clients. I continued to post on social media daily. There were easy days and hard ones, but in the harder days I rememberer why I became a Wax Specialist. Now in 2024, a month doesn’t go by without me seeing at least 150 clients a month. If I would have quit or not put in my full 100%, I would not be where I am today!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Turning pain into beauty and through the process of healing, finding a passion. In 2021 I, Kaylin Taylor, became a Licensed Esthetician and created a safe space where all women can come to enhance their beauty through the process of hair removal, known as The Waxx Brat. After becoming a victim of rape in 2020, I was advised to find “self care”. After creating a consistent facial and waxing routine with my then Esthetician and now mentor, I was able to share my story with her. As we grew closer, she pushed me to find my passion in Esthetics. My goal with The Waxx Brat is to give women what I needed during that time, a safe space and a listening ear. The Waxx Brat is located in Saint Louis, Missouri offering facial waxing, full body waxing, and vajacial services. I try my best to educate my clients on how some of their lifestyle habits may affect their skin all while reassuring them their skin is beautiful!

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Outside of having a natural client-waxer relationship, I show my clients how much they are appreciated by offering a loyalty card system. It’s simply a business card sized card that collects stamps, it fits easily into their wallet or can be kept in the car. After each appointment they will receive a stamp. The fourth stamp allows them to receive a free add on while the eighth stamp takes 50% off of their entire service. Clients want to know they are appreciated, I believe this is a great way to keep your clients coming back.
I have also learned it’s important to treat your clients like they are your friends. Welcome them into the space. Text them Happy Birthday on their Birthday. we become friends on social media. I may randomly pay for the service of those clients who continue to come consistently. Sometimes, I will help pay for my clients waxing service if they mention they are preparing for their wedding or birthday! So just building a relationship and making them feel seen is a way I naturally foster loyalty into a brand.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think originality via social media helped build my reputation within my market. Social media is a huge tool to use when it comes to growing a brand. Yes, I could have gotten on social media and posted what ever other waxer is posting or what I think is “aesthetically pleasing”. However, I try my best to post who I really am. As a small business I am the brand. People want to know that you are human and they can relate to you. So to build trust, I make a bunch of reels/ TikToks answering questions my clients have asked me or fighting myths about the waxing process. I also try my best to show who I really am, a goofy, girl who loves waxing! This has helped me build a trustworthy reputation within my community.
