We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kaylene Kaiser. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kaylene below.
Kaylene, appreciate you joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
I had about a million ideas when I first launched The Wisery. I wanted to maximize my impact by offering multiple ways to work with people, which is great… in theory. In reality, however, not super practical for a one woman show. I quickly became overwhelmed and felt burned out only a few weeks in. I had to take a major step back almost immediately after launching my business to refocus and get clear. I had to go back to the drawing board and remember what originally inspired me to start The Wisery to begin with and pour all of my energy into that. It felt defeating at the time, like I was taking two steps back, but ultimately I am so grateful for the experience. It was humbling and a very important time for me that I now consider to be a blessing in disguise, as I was able to throw away all the things that I wasn’t truly passionate about or completely aligned with.
Kaylene, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
There’s two things about me that I think everybody should know: I love being a woman and I love being an Angeleno. The Wisery Los Angeles was born out of a need I felt wasn’t being met in this city. Entrepreneurial women need a networking community. The Wisery LA hosts private events for women to create meaningful connections with one another. We believing in showing up as our authentic selves at these events, and we challenge our attendees to do the same. Our events are modern, elevated, and meaningful. Not to mention full of incredible connections for you and your business in the city. We talk mental health in entrepreneurship, highlight incredible businesses, and encourage honest conversation- all in a beautiful setting. Our goal is to connect the incredible women in this city to one another… And actually, our waitlist is now open for our next event in May!
Other than our events, entrepreneurs can also work with me directly, I offer 1:1 mentoring on an as-needed basis.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn that it’s okay to pivot. In the early days of launching my business, I thought that I had to have everything completely figured out on Day 1, and that way of thinking couldn’t have been more incorrect. I have found that the most important part in owning a business is staying authentic and true to yourself. If something isn’t working or lighting you up- it’s okay to set it aside and try something else. Everything is trial and error, especially in the early days. The most important thing is just to keep going!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Oh wow, yes! The most influential book I have ever read regarding business has to be “We Should All Be Millionaires” by Rachel Rodgers. Her perspective and insight are so incredibly valuable for any woman in business and I recommend it to just about everyone I know!
