We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayleigh Eppinger. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayleigh below.
Kayleigh, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Last year I completed my first ground-up build. It’s the first project of mine where I was there from the very beginning. This project in particular was on a remote mountaintop in rural Maine and when my client first took me to the site where he was thinking of building it, we had to hike through the woods to get there. When we started out there were no roads, electricity or water up there, it was just an untouched plot of land. So to be able to start with nothing except a vision in my head of what it could be, and then see that vision eventually materialize was so rewarding. My client put a lot of trust into me, which is ideal as a designer. It was a project I spent so much time thinking about and to see it finally come to life was magical.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I believe that your home should be the vessel for creating life-long memories. It should speak to exactly who you are and how you live. It should be the conductor for bringing your family together. Your home should have quirks and secret spots, cozy corners and heirlooms. It should be the backdrop for peaceful mornings at dawn and the chaos of a holiday dinner. Your home is where your life is lived and memories are formed. Your home should hold stories.
I have worked in the industry for nearly 10 years. With an architecture background and experience working for notable designers across the country, I layer a wealth of technical knowledge with a love for beauty that delights. Having deep-rooted memories connected to homes, I see design through the lens of storytelling and hope to give others the spaces to create their own memories.
I design holistically, thinking in broad strokes and minute details. Working to perfect the overall flow and common threads, while zooming in on every inch. Bringing in elements that give a home character and make it uniquely suited to your family. I never repeat designs, bringing a fresh perspective to each project. I’m mindful to study the home’s architecture and community and pay homage to its history and surroundings. I thoughtfully incorporate natural materials, vintage treasures, and heirloom-quality pieces into each space I design, hoping to create a home that ages responsibly and beautifully.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing clients fall in love with their spaces. It’s especially true for clients who have lived in their home for a while already and just aren’t in love with it in the way they hoped. Coming in and making, even very minor, changes can completely transform how they feel about, use, or see their space. Those transformations are the most rewarding, because everyone should love their home and have it feel special to them and being able to use my creative skills to help people achieve that really fills my cup.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals are the best source of new clients for me, which makes it so important to foster good relationships with my clients. I want them to feel taken care of and listened to as much as possible. That way, when a friend or relative tells them they want to tweak something in their home, they’ll tell them they know the perfect person to help them. One happy client can lead to a dozen future ones.
