We were lucky to catch up with Kaylee Tellez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kaylee , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have a deep appreciation of Earth and all plant life.
The energy the Earth and plants carry and the healing that comes from them is something I believe is essential in the human experience.
Self care is something very important to me. It helps me relax, and slow down. It brings me peace and tranquility.
I longed for a connection to nature, in a way that can coexist with the hectic day to day of the world we live in.
I love that I have my business centered around nature and self care.
I want to bring back the relationship with the Earth that our ancestors once had.
I find their knowledge of plant medicine & natural healing so fascinating.
I love creating natural soap with plant and earth based ingredients and I hope it reaches those who cherish that relationship too.
Kaylee , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Kaylee, I have a soap business that is plastic free. I use paper products to wrap and ship my orders.
My soap bars are made by hand, using natural earth based ingredients. They are scented only with essential oils, and are free of any lab made micas and fragrances.
I am an aspiring herbalist. I love working with healing herbs and earth clays. I love self care and natural alternative products.
I am very attentive to the formulas I create when soap making. Every soap bar is made with an intention to help with differing skin traits. Or preferred skin outcomes.
Every ingredient added in my soaps are with purpose and of benefit. I like to do my research before creating a soap I have in mind.
At the moment, I have a soap for acne, one for cell rejuvenation (which is my favorite right now) and one for dry skin.
The goal in my soap bars is to create an all in one soap that is gentle, effective, and natural.
My skin and self care routine has changed a lot since I’ve become a mother but I am happy to say that my skin doesn’t have to suffer for it.
My soaps tend to whatever my skin may need, whether it be extra moisture, some acne control, or a skin refresh.
I am not a multiple product kind of girl so I love that my routine can just be an Aperçu & Co. soap and jojoba oil!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The intention behind my soaps is really important. They are an expression of love, intended to heal and connect us to Earth.
I think being true to the purpose of these soaps has really set them apart and earned their place.
It can be really hard not to get swept up in what may work for others or seems to be trending, but trends come and go. It’s important to build something on a foundation.
I love the community that supports my soaps because they appreciate their purpose, and I am so thankful for their continuous support.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I think running a business in itself is a form of resilience. It takes a lot of work, and it’s usually done by one person at first.
There’s also a no guarantee of success or steady income starting off, and you kind of just choose to believe it will work.
You take accountability when it doesn’t and try new things until you find something that does.
You have to be your own support and backbone. Holding that vision, that dream, no matter what until you succeed. That is the ultimate form of resilience in my opinion.
