Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaylee Tan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kaylee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Growing up in Singapore, where math and science were prioritized in education, I initially focused on academics and did well. However, it wasn’t until secondary school when I discovered fine arts that I realized my passion for art and creativity. Thanks to the guidance of passionate art teachers, I developed my skills and fell in love with the arts. Although I started with fine arts, my true passion was always animation, inspired by films like “Tangled” and “Toy Story”. When it came time to choose my major after the O level national examinations, pursuing animation in Singapore and later at Ringling College of Art and Design felt like the natural and exciting next step for me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we dive deeper, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and tell our readers a bit about your journey?
My name is Kaylee Tan, and I’m a recent computer animation graduate from Ringling College of Art and Design. I just finished my 3D modeling internship at Disney Consumer Products. Originally from Singapore, I moved halfway across the world to pursue my passion for animation in the United States.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work on some notable projects, including McDonald’s UK spots with Hornet, the Barbie TV Production with Mindshow, and the AAA game “Ace Combat 7” with Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. Selected for prestigious workshops with Disney and Hasbro and honored with the Women in Animation 2022-2023 Scholarship, I bring a blend of technical expertise and creative vision to every project.
I love telling fun and heartwarming stories, aiming to spread positivity and inspire others through my artwork. My Instagram handle, @revermore—meaning “dream more” in French—follows my journey into animation, featuring engaging content designed to uplift and inspire my audience. My thesis short film is currently on a successful film festival run, winning awards and screening at various festivals worldwide.
Additionally, I led a team of students to develop a hybrid 2D/3D short film in the form of a children’s picture book titled “You Can. YOU CAN!” for the non-profit organization, Children First. We raised funds and provided underprivileged children with 120 picture books to encourage early reading. A strong advocate of volunteering, I currently volunteer with Asians in Animation, a non-profit organization that aims to spread awareness and empower the Asian community in the industry.
As I embark on the next stage of my career, I am committed to creating high-quality and impactful visual experiences for my audience and look forward to new opportunities to grow my skills and creativity.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to tell fun and heartwarming stories that inspire and spread positivity. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see how my work can impact others, evoke emotions, and spark joy. I also deeply value growth and am committed to continuous learning and self-improvement. Overcoming challenges and mastering new techniques or software keeps me motivated and passionate about my craft. I’m always eager to become an even better artist. Ultimately, it’s the connection with the audience and the ability to make a difference through art that makes this journey so rewarding.
