We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kaylee Shields. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kaylee below.
Kaylee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I have always been passionate about health and fitness. I’ve always loved to be active and I’ve always loved to help people. When I was a teenager I struggled off and on with an eating disorder for a number of years and after that God really gave me a heart to help other women that struggle in similar ways, but I wasn’t really sure what that looked like. A few years passed and I had just given birth to my son when I realized how much I wanted him to see and experience his mom pursuing her dreams and also helping others. I wanted him to know that no matter how much or how little we have we can always serve others with what we have and shine the love of Jesus. I decided to stop procrastinating and pursue my certification as a personal trainer. But it was all or nothing! If i was going to get certified might as well go big! I pursed not just one certification but four at the same time and a year and a half later successfully became a certified personal trainer, nutrition coach, online training, and strength and conditioning coach.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Yes! I’m Kaylee, owner of Made For More Personal Training based in Spokane, Washington. I have been focusing a lot on online coaching recently though, as I’ve found that reaches more people and is able to be more affordable but also something that people can stick to more long term. Made For More seeks to help people, especially women become the best they can be in every area of their life and encourages them not to settle for the limitations they or others have placed on them. God has created each of us for a unique and beautiful plan and purpose and I want people to realize that no matter the things they have been through or how they may feel about themselves God has made them for more!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Not to compare with others. You think “oh there are already so many in this field I don’t have anything else to offer.” Not true! You bring a special piece that is unique and that someone else needs specifically. We are all different and God has different plans and people in our lives that only we can influence.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being empathetic and being personable. Working with clients on health and fitness goes deeper than just the physical aspect. Health and wellness is tied into every aspect of our lives. It’s so important to get to know and actually care about the people you are working with.
