Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaylee Kloster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kaylee , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
This is something I have journaled on from time to time, especially the last few years. I haven’t had a near death experience myself but when people close to you experience a life threatening disease or near-death experience it really makes you reflect on what you want your legacy to be. I’ve envisioned people at my funeral and what I want them to say and remember me-there are a few things. One, that I was one of the most loyal and dedicated individuals they knew; two, that I generally put others needs before my own and three, that they could always depend on me to show up 100% at whatever I did!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up in an entrepreneurial family I was surrounded by creative thinkers, risk takers and driven individuals. Going to college I wanted to be “different”, so I pursued a degree in interior architecture. Professors my freshman year tried to convince me to switch majors and do something different, that’s how bad I was – but it made me more determined to succeed. I ended up graduating with an award for my thesis. However, through this time I realized I was not meant to be behind a desk and craved relationship building and personal interaction. I went into outside sales for four years before joining my mom in the real estate business. I remember as a kid helping my mom make for-sale flyers and presentations, it was a natural progression to go this direction. I joined her in the sense of her brokerage, but I was 100% my own business as far as clients, marketing, etc. Growing up my grandfather had developed a few subdivisions and he always preached to us “they can’t make more land”; he invested in real estate all over the world and I got that “bug” from him. A year into my real estate business helping buyers and sellers I started to work with investors and become an investor myself. My now husband and I flipped our first house in 2014 and purchased and fixed our first rental property the same year. Shortly after that, I went to work with an iconic developer in Denver, Dana Crawford. The time I spent working with Dana I honed my skills as a business owner, real estate professional and truly became more of a project manager and problem solver more than ever before. As a real estate agent, there’s so much I do behind the scenes to stay ahead of the process, much of it goes unnoticed by the client. April 2019, I came back to Hutton Realty with the intent of continuing the legacy my mother and grandfather had started in the early 90’s. Since then, I have been molding it into a version of myself with the backbone and foundation they created all those years ago. The reason people work with my, I believe, is my personal experience, dedication to their needs, attention to detail and endless effort to create a mutually beneficial relationship. I once worked with a buyer for 2.5 years before they purchased their first home. My personal experience is immeasurable; between me and my husband and investing partners we have purchased, sold, flipped, rented over 25 properties alone. I’ve been there, I’ve done it and been in the trenches, so my ability to educate, relate and show empathy is vast. As your realtor, you won’t get passed off to anyone; I’ve got my hands in all things throughout our time working together – I am heavily dedicated and committed to my clients!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Maybe this will be a reverse pivot to most other peoples ”pivots” but I actually took just over a year “sabbatical” after feeling over stretched. My husband and I had spent the better part of 10 years flipping 1-2 houses per year on top of him working a full-time job and me selling real estate full-time. We helped contractors and did lots of the work ourselves on many of these houses. We had been a little too busy for too long and got a bit burnt out. This called for a change of pace, a pivot. Our pivot was to the other side of the teeter totter – we traveled the US in our camper and worked as little as possible. It was the swing I need to come back with a fresh perspective and commitment to my business. Finding a balance is so important in life and certainly in real estate. I was so involved in helping others I was forgetting that I had needs as well. Helping realize this and spending some time on myself, in the end, helped me deliver higher quality results to my clients.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Experience and proof. As I mentioned, there is nothing more relatable to clients than me having experienced so many transactions myself. Because of this, I am truly educating people on what it takes to build wealth through real estate and how homeownership is difficult yet rewarding. Investing is not always for everyone either, but many people don’t even know that it is an option for them. I have probably worked with at least a dozen clients who originally wanted to sell their house, then after discussing options with me, they decided to keep the house as a rental – using its equity to fuel the purchase of another home. This is something that has cost me several sales, yet, if it is the right decision for my client, then I am doing my job well!
