We recently connected with Kaylee Dale and have shared our conversation below.
Kaylee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
My biggest hero would have to be my dad. I watched that man never complain, never waver. No matter how many hours he had worked or how long he’d been away from home, he always made time for me & my mom. My dad always pushed me to do any job to your full ability, no half-ass. No shortcuts. Be honest and fair.
My dad is actually one of the many people who convinced me to start my own business and work for myself full time.
Kaylee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a small town girl, born and raised in Central, FL. I originally worked in a motorcycle shop as a parts counterperson. And I was wanting to make some extra money on the side, I had a 2008 Honda Accord that I got from my grandmother and detailed it up after watching some videos online. My grandmother told me “oh you should totally do this for money” and I kinda just shook it off. I mentioned it to both of my parents and they both said I have the eye for detail and that I love cars so why wouldn’t I want to detail?
I ordered $1000 worth of supplies that night and made a promise to myself to pay it back in a certain timeframe. I paid it back in less than 3 months.
I was working 6-7 days a week between the bike shop and detailing, and detailing was becoming quite big and I could make my own schedule/hours.
I was driving to work one day and BOOM! I got rear ended in my mint condition Honda Accord was totaled. I went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to buy another car (when it happened it was when cars were very inflated and I couldn’t buy what I had for what the insurance company gave me).
So as anyone would, I went to my dad for advice, and he said “Kaylee. Quit your job and detail full time”
So I did. I worked my last month at the bike shop and left on good terms of course.
I haven’t worked for someone since November 1st, 2022
I continue to grow and educate myself in my craft. I’ve taken classes both in person and online. I recently joined a networking group to be able to grow my business and make my business known in my community.
I have a passion for cars, trucks, motorcycles. Basically anything with wheels and an engine. And that’s what sets me apart from a lot of Detailers, I truly love what I do and the vehicles I work on. I prefer to build relationships with people and be able to build a personalized plan for their vehicle. I’m not a one hour in-n-out detailer. I take anywhere from 3-9 hours on many jobs. Some I’ve had taken 2 days. Just really depends what the customer wants and what the vehicle needs.
I’m most proud of the relationships and clientele I’ve built. Selling and building a brand from nothing. I look forward to see what the future holds for me.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I learned to take good, high quality photos of my work. Because without pictures you can’t prove how good you are. My before & afters are something I am most proud of. I learned to use hashtags, find optimal times to post via insights, and overall just try to keep everything updated, relevant, and engaging. As far as advice, take good photos, remain professional, and post often.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I joined a BNI networking group last year and it has significantly kickstarted my business and given me high quality referrals to the exact ideal customers I want to reach. Which without that, it is much harder to organically generate.
