Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kaylah Morris. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kaylah , appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Since I was a little girl, I have always had a true passion for fashion. I remember being in elementary school, sketching outfit designs and planning fashion shows with my cousins. It wasn’t until I was in high school when I realized what career path I wanted to take. I worked at Macy’s as a Retail Associate and noticed a woman assisting individual customers while they were shopping. I asked another associate what her position was called, and she told me she was the store’s Personal Stylist. From that day forward, I thought that’s what my “dream job” was. After a few years of trying to take the academic route, I graduated with my Bachelor’s and landed an amazing job as a Client Services Associate (Marketing Brand Manager) at Kroger Discoveries. Shortly after, COVID-19 greatly impacted the industry and I found myself both professionally and personally affected by the virus. The newly allotted free time allowed me to fully work on my craft and like a stroke of luck, I was asked to style my first Photoshoot. From that day forward I began to establish myself as a stylist and brand. In a true twist of fate, I stumbled across a job application for a Personal Stylist at a “nearby” Macy’s; but after a quick Google Maps search, I realized the store was 2 hours away. I decided to follow my dreams and apply anyway. I quickly landed the job and was able to smoothly adjust to the fast-pace environment. While working there, I realized there was not a specific focus on the customer’s “personal” style. After some time, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a “Personal Wardrobe Stylist” service at your fingertips.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, Can you take a minute to introduce yourself and your company?
For those who don’t know me; my name is Kaylah Morris and I’m a Wardrobe Stylist and Personal Shopper. I started by styling photoshoots for local models and photographers in the Cincinnati-area and I gradually began transitioning into Personal Styling. By divine design, I was able to land what I thought was my dream job at Macy’s as a Personal Stylist. After careful analysis, I developed a number of services that are the ultimate confidence boosters! I am currently focusing on helping women not only determine what their own personal style is (so they save money and time), but I also take it a step further by alleviating the stress of shopping for them as well.
Kaylah M. Morris Styling Services provides a number of style-related services that are essential to getting dressed. I provide everything from Personal Shopping to Closet Cleanings. I have even recently developed a service that allows you to receive all of my services with 24/7 style-assistance!
Everyone needs a Wardrobe/Personal Stylist! You have someone you consult for your hair (cosmetologist), health (doctor), teeth (dentist), nails (manicurist); why wouldn’t you consult someone when it comes to your clothes and style? Having a stylist is essential to getting dressed! This is why I created my Style Membership Service. It provides all of my styling services plus 24/7 style assistance for one small monthly fee.
What sets me apart from others is the relationship that I build with my clients. I want to make sure that the client is always the person to make the final decision when it comes to our partnership because style is something that is individual to each specific person and not one person has the same style. Allowing my clients to have the ability to make their own style decisions gives them the freedom to find their confidence in getting dressed.
I would say I am most proud of being able to own and operate a business that is mine, where I have the ability to make someone feel better about themselves. My number one goal with my business is to allow people to explore what their “Personal Style” is with the help of a Personal Stylist.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
It’s funny, I feel like no matter how many times I try to pivot and focus on other things; it’s like I’m always pulled back into styling. I truly think that my purpose in life is to be a stylist. And not any type of stylist in particular because I enjoy all types of styling. I’ve been a stylist all of my life, but I’ve just recently started charging for it (laughs). I do not know what my particular purpose with styling is, but I’m supposed to be in this field, in this position.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I previously worked at Macy’s Inc. as a Personal Stylist at a location that was 2 hours away from my home. It had always been my dream to work as a Personal Stylist at the company since I began working there at 18 years old. Once I was offered the position, I fell in love with the description and I accepted the offer. Shortly after, I planned a trip to go to NYFW in February for my birthday. While there, I was able to visit the Herald Square Macy’s and was instantly obsessed! I developed a 5-year plan that I was certain would get me to the Personal Stylist position there. Once I returned back to my store, I put my plan into action. Within 6 months, I was able to develop and direct two fashion shows, merchandise several other corporate fashion shows, events and photoshoots as well as create and maintain a clientele of 20+. During this time, I was also still accepting clients in my hometown. I began to notice that the inventory in the store was not geared towards the type of clientele that I was attracting. After a new opportunity for me to focus solely on Kaylah M. Morris Styling Services opened up, I decided to pivot from that 5-year plan and become a full-time entrepreneur once again. This opportunity gave me knowledge that is learned in some of the greatest fashion schools across the country on top of all of the hands-on experience I received from it.
