Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayla Zadel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kayla, appreciate you joining us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
The most important experience I have had in a job is never to give up or get discouraged by a “no.” I know this sounds cliché, but if I stopped trying every time I got told no, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I get told that word many times a day, week, month, etc. It just means I’m one step closer to a yes. Every time I get told no, I reach out to another company/brand in search of that yes.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have a background in Broadcast Journalism, and that’s where I started my career. I was a local lifestyle correspondent and producer for a small but amazing station. Then I was offered not one but two of my dream jobs. I was a sideline reporter for a professional rodeo series and also a western sports host. I thought things could only go up from here, but sometimes things aren’t always what they seem.
What I thought was going to be a major setback for my career was actually a step in a different direction that led me to where I am today. I knew that I wanted to share amazing brands with my followers and a larger audience. That’s why I went back to the role of a lifestyle correspondent and started blogging. I love being able to work with brands that I believe in. Additionally, it’s amazing being able to write what I want, as well as being able to create amazing content that I’m truly proud of.
I’m currently booking TV segments nationwide, and I love nothing more than what I do right now. I’ve learned how to incorporate social media into my work, and it’s been beneficial for not only me but the brands that I represent. My blogging has turned into the role of a full-time content creator.
In 2021, I officially started Kayla Zadel Media, LLC. It is a comprehensive social media marketing agency that’s multi-faceted. I offer social media management services, employer branding, online brand reputation & engagement, website development and more.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My career path has been anything but a “smooth road.” Things always look glamorous looking from the outside in. But my “road” or journey is anything but glamorous. When I say I’ve had to hustle for every job I’ve had or every deal I’ve done, I mean it. I spent MONTHS trying to get a job at the first TV station I worked at. It took me a YEAR to get the sideline reporter job and then another series of months to get the western sports host/producer job.
Becoming a lifestyle correspondent and a (successful) content creator didn’t happen overnight, either. I can still say that the road is not glamorous. Most of my days are spent behind a computer, hustling new business, and keeping up with the current clients that I have. I wear many hats (figuratively and literally – I love a good hat). I’m still not where I want to be, but I have to remember that things don’t always happen as fast as I want them to. But if I work hard and continue to take the bad with the good, I will get to where I want to be.
I’ve also had to pivot and add another branch to my business, and that’s where the social media marketing services come into play.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Consistency! I know we hear it all the time, but it’s true! You have to post and engage with other accounts consistently. Plus, following the trends on each social platform, as well as keeping up with updates or new launches by each entity, will help.
