We were lucky to catch up with Kayla Watson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kayla, appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
My main goal with the living room sesh is to create an environment for artist where they can truly be themselves. The entire set, visuals, camera angles, and edits are designed to fit the artist aesthetic to the tea to give their fans and new found fans an inside look on who they are and what they represent.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
The Living Room Sesh is an unplugged experience. Visually capturing a live acoustic show. This event is centered around the creation of the visuals. A platform for artists to show the true versatility of their music. Setting vibes centered around the artist aesthetic. The Living Room Sesh was created for creatives by creatives. I was managing a local event space called The Loud Gallery which had tons of events catered to Artist of all type. I saw the amount of talent in the city of Orlando alone and I wanted to create a platform for artist to express themselves. I wanted them to feel comfortable and giving them a chance to show their fans their true identity and aesthetic of their music. Unlike other unplugs that have one creative set design for all performances, L.R.S creates a set design for each artist so no visual or event is created in the same way. We make sure to collaborate closely with each artist to grasp the concept the way they want their fans to see it.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
We are a very close team. Everyone on the team knows their strengths and helps in playing their part. We keep a high morale because we all have the same goal which is to make every visual, or every event the best we can make it. We have so much fun being able to collaborate and set the vibe for each sesh. We are all friends and creatives and nothing makes us happier than seeing our vision come to life as a collective.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When first starting The Living Room Sesh, my main focus was putting out content consistently. My team and I would batch record content for like 10 hours in 1 day, trying to be consistent with our content. I learned over time that the visual were good when we would batch record but they could’ve been GREAT, if we took a little more time instead of rushing through them to get to the next sesh and stay on schedule. I had to throw a lot of content away because of that and I had to adjust my methods. I am now the biggest advocate for QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. Learning that its okay to take your time putting out content as long as you are making it the best it can be.
