We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayla Simon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayla below.
Kayla, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Much like the word legacy, I hope my presence in life to leave a long-lasting impact on the paths I cross. An impact full of radiance and positivity. I imagine my legacy not to be tangible but one that shines through people I may impact. I was recently compared to the sun – having an internal light that shines, brightening surroundings yet wanting nothing in return.
Kayla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have had an interest in creating from a very early age. As a child, I would spend my free time drawing or scrapbooking – anything that allowed working with elements to create a full composition. This interest followed me through my college career to current day status as a marketing agency owner. Alongside my life long best friend, we brought our talents together to form the marketing agency, KSquared Creative Co.
Unknowingly, we formed our new business only months before COVID became present which literally became a pivotal moment in our career. COVID became the catalyst in unlocking the skillset that sets us apart from others – creative strategy. Instead of focusing solely on traditional marketing efforts, we had to pivot and help clients develop new ways to sustain their businesses during uncertain times.
KSquared is the platform that unlocked my inner innovator.
Through the challenges our clients faced, my personal aspirations beyond KSquared, and my strong-willed “red” personality, I am most proud to possess the gift of recognizing my calling and having the confidence to pursue it.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Consistency and following my own internal morale compass. Always showing up. Correcting any wrongs. Meeting the client where they are and providing options. Having an open mindset.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
After separating from my son’s father, I found myself back at square one contemplating career choices. Due to my bachelor’s degree in graphic design, interest in social media and enthusiastic approach to my personal instagram, I was contacted by local professionals to create graphics for their social media accounts which lead to managing their pages. My life long best friend joined my efforts in her down time from teaching and together we decided to ditch our desk jobs and go full time with KSquared. It is amazing to look back at where we started to what we eventually created not just for ourselves, but the opportunity we created for others in our industry that are looking for a remote career.
