We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayla Rodriguez . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayla below.
Alright, Kayla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I’m so grateful for every risk I’ve taken. Even if it didn’t go as planned, there was always something I learned to take with me on my journey. The risk that first comes to mind is leaving my full- time job back in 2021 to pursue coaching full time. I was a full time nanny in NYC and had worked every single day of the pandemic with no breaks while working my business part time. It was so stressful and overwhelming. There were times I would get anxiety on my way into work because I was mentally checked out and unhappy. I was unhappy at my day job and super happy with the work I was doing as a coach. Business was doing well and I slowly warmed up to the idea of leaving my job. If I’m being honest the thought of that really scared me. I grew up in a Latino household where all I was taught was stability is only found at a job. Weekly paychecks was all I knew. The thought of not having a stable income scared me, but my mental health was taking a toll. One day I got to work and my heart was pounding, I had a knot in my throat and I just felt like God was telling me “today is the day, you have to do it!” About five minutes late I had the conversations with my employers and gave them my leave notice. I felt so relieved after that conversation! It felt like so much weight was lifted off of me. In June of 2021 I left. I had my emergency fund to hold me down for a while and I was betting on myself and the business to keep thriving! Sometimes taking risks is the only way to meet the next version of you and the life that you envision.

How did you build your audience on social media?
One of the most important things I’ve done to build my social media audience is to be 100% myself! Authenticity and stories are what build connection. People buy you before they purchase anything you sell. I’ve built a community and I believe that is one reason my audience keeps supporting me. The person I am on social media is the same person you will meet in person. Being who you truly are at all times is vital for brand trust and longevity. Please don’t pretend to be anyone else. There is space on every platform for everyone. Your social media page is like your slice of the internet. Making your slice of the pie is special and unique is important. It can be scary especially if you’re just trying out. One of the things I used to do was record videos of myself and not post them. This would help me practice until I was ready to actually post. Now I’m not camera shy and posting on IG stories is my favorite way to show up on social media. Even if you’re scared, do it. I promise you, you will inspire someone somewhere in the world. Also, don’t give value or worth to the negative opinions of others. Those who are scared to go after their dreams will scare and discourage you from going after yours. Your time is now!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are so many books I can name that will help shift many mindsets when it comes to entrepreneurial thinking. However the books I’m going to recommend impacted me because they pushed me to do inner work. One thing I’ve learned the hard way is, if your mind isn’t right nothing else in your life will be right. You can fake it, but that usually doesn’t end well and you end up stumping your own growth.
Here are the books that have impacted me. Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers, Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, What To Say When You Talk To Yourself by Shad Helmstetter and last but certainly not least the book that gives me the best answers, peace and clarity is The Bible.
