We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayla Paige. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayla below.
Kayla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media but I have definitely thought about hiring someone to help. Sometimes it can be a lot when I get busy with a a lot of editing and back to back shoots. I also like managing it myself though because I know what to post and when to post. I feel like I can continue to manage for now though because I don’t post anything crazy and I have been posting consistently for my business.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Kayla Paige I go by KP aka kptheshooter. I’m a photographer/vhs videographer based in Atlanta. I’ve always loved cameras since a child but started taking cameras serious when I was about 17-18 so I’ve been shooting for about 6 years now and have gotten to work with people I never thought I could. It wasn’t all over night though, I would say it really started taking off in the end of 2021 going into 2022. I got to go to a free lil baby concert I was there so early and there all night I wasn’t in the photo pit but I got there eventually.I was in the front row most of the night plotting on how I could get in the pit before lil baby came out because I was close but not close enough. I ended up talking to one of the guards all night he saw my determination and ended up helping me get through just in time. That night taught me to speak up if you don’t speak up nothing will happen your way. You never know what networking and just talking to someone can get you. Ever since that night I make sure I network anywhere I go it doesn’t matter where I am. So I guess you could say that was kinda my first big break trying to get in the industry and I’m still trying till this day. I just continue to try to be consistent with my craft so I can continue to get better at what I do. The key to my consistency is being real versatile in my craft I try to shoot everything. I shoot lifestyle, parties, concerts, bts to music videos, studio portraits, etc. I also shoot videos on film I shoot bts from your music video, clothing line, bts from a photoshoots, & vlogs. With me being able to. shoot these many different styles it sets me apart from others. I shoot more than just photos so I feel it sets me apart from other photographers and when I take pictures you can tell that I took the photo even if their is no watermark. I’m proud that more people than just can actually see my work apart from others. I love when y’all come and tell me you see me outside working and how it motivates y’all to do the same. I appreciate it so much just lets me know that my work doesn’t go unseen. I have a lot of new content to post for y’all coming soon I’m also about to get into recording music videos so be on the lookout for that as well.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I would say my biggest pivot would be when covid hit. Before covid hit I was shooting inside my in home studio that I set up when I first left school. Covid made it hard because I couldn’t let people in for a shoot for a while and I wasn’t really shooting outside like that at the time so I took a short break. Once covid got a little better I started shooting outside and that’s what really got my business moving. I got to network so much and started to fall in love with shooting outside so much I kind of fell back from studio shoots.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
The way my business really started was when I left school like I said earlier. I was attending Albany State University and majoring in business management. I left after first semester of my sophomore year I just felt like I was there for no reason and felt like I could be doing more. I had clientele out there but not like Atlanta because I basically had to restart when I started school I didn’t really know anyone like that in the beginning. Once I started feeling like I wanted to go home and work on my business I just did it because I knew I had it in me. I had other creative friend that didn’t even go to school and had already made a name for themselves in the game, so I knew I could do the same cause I had just as much talent. So once I made that decision to leave I came home and got me a job and every time I got paid I bought equipment to start my studio up. I didn’t let anyone try tell I should be staying I school or make me second guess because I had a vision and I was gonna goo through with it regardless.
