Kayla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today.

If I were starting over today, the FIRST thing I’d do? Get a mentor! Find someone in your industry whose work stops you in your tracks and see if they offer mentorship. Learning from someone who’s been there, done that will save you SO much time, money, and those late-night “am I even doing this right?” spirals. I wish I had done this sooner—it would’ve saved me from wasting money on random equipment, unnecessary software, and allll the second-guessing.

Next up? Branding, baby! Your brand should feel like you—your vibe, your energy, your magic. For way too long, I played it safe with neutral colors and a “professional” aesthetic because I thought that’s what I had to do. But guess what? I’m way more colorful than that! Once I embraced bold colors, fonts, and photos that actually felt like me, everything clicked. Now, my brand attracts the right people, and my online presence actually reflects what I bring to the table.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My photography journey officially began when I had my first baby and had one of those “yeahhh, this 9-5 corporate life is NOT it for me” moments. So, I grabbed my camera and never looked back! For years, I balanced photography as a side hustle while also working as a marketing and social media Manager. And then it clicked—why was I keeping them separate?! Once I combined my love for photography with my marketing expertise, brand photography became my full-time focus. It’s where my creativity thrives and let me tell you, it’s been the best decision ever!

I’ve had the absolute best time working with all kinds of businesses—chiropractors, med spas, dietitians, fitness pros—you name it! Every session is completely customized, from the perfect mix of poses and wardrobe choices to hand-picked locations and even pro-level video content for ads, websites, and reels.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

What built my reputation as a brand photographer? Obsessing over my clients’ success. Seriously—I don’t just show up, snap some photos, and call it a day. I step into my clients’ shoes as a marketer, thinking about exactly what they need to show up confidently in their business.

From the moment we start working together, I’m brainstorming—what does their website header need to say? How can we create content that actually converts? What reel ideas will help them connect with their audience right now? During our session, I’m not just directing poses—I’m making them feel comfortable and ensuring every shot aligns with their brand vision. We’re filming reels on the spot so they leave with a mix of stunning photos and high-impact video content.

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I know that giving my clients exactly what they need—beyond just pretty photos—is what builds a strong, recognizable brand. And that experience? It creates the kind of word-of-mouth referrals that no ad could ever buy. Because when you truly serve your clients, they can’t help but rave about you!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

I never saw myself as an artist until I discovered how capturing a woman’s authentic confidence behind my lens could transform not just her brand but her whole business mindset.
There’s nothing better than seeing that shift—when they stop overthinking and start feeling it. When they see their brand, their hard work, and most importantly, themselves in a whole new light. That transformation? It’s pure magic. And knowing I get to help business owners show up boldly and tell their story in a way that truly reflects them? It’s a dream come true!
