Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayla Mekler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kayla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us a bit about who your hero is and the influence they’ve had on you?
My mom is my hero. Cheesy, I know. But she’s the kind of person who shines even when she’s not trying. Just talking to her will brighten up anyone’s day. Truly, she’s an angel. Her heart for others and passion for giving is more authentic and genuine than anyone I’ve ever met, and I know she continually touches lives. If I’m ever half the woman she is, I’ll consider my life a success.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As a little girl, I dreamed of sharing my stories with the world. When I finally decided to publish my novels, I knew it wouldn’t be easy. But I knew if I could get my stories out there, the right people would find it. I’ve always been mesmerized by the way reading makes me feel—to lose myself in a story. I want the same thing for my readers, and I strive to share that with them.
Finally putting myself out there and becoming a published author is what I’m most proud of. It was incredibly difficult, but I told myself, “If I never try, I’ll never know.” And now, I know! I believe my stories are the kind of fantasies that you can lose yourself in. I know I do ;)
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During the publishing process, there were a few weeks where I was solely doing just that. Publishing. I studied dozens, if not hundreds, of articles, videos, experiences, etc. And when I tell you there were SO MANY road blocks—Lord have mercy, I thought they’d never end. I would get past one hurdle just to trip over another.
This process was grueling and incredibly time consuming. I even got an eye twitch that wouldn’t go away for weeks. But I forced myself forward, holding onto the grit in my soul and refusing to quit.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There’s something beautiful about the book community that brings people together. Entering the writing community, I’ve made friends, become part of support systems and built my own, and learned so much from fellow writers/authors. It opened doors I didn’t imagine it would, and I can’t wait to continue down this path.
