We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayla Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayla below.
Kayla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
It’s crazy because I always knew I wanted to pursue in art. I just never thought of it as a profession just as a form of expression. When I was in 1st grade and for as long as I could remember the thought of being a artist was always on my mind. Yeah I was doing my school work and learning but everyday I was just trying to create something in real life form that was just chilling in my head all day. Little kayla filled with happiness every chance I created. So she created a lot, with all mediums and anyway she could. Being a professional artist to me just meant I get to create and feel good no matter what I created because in my eyes it was all perfect. It came from me, why and how could I ever question that. So here I am, still creating and always will be. Within my own pace, time, and experiences i wish to share.

Kayla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being a creator is in my design. To form art is how I will be Apart of the movement in the world. At the moment I’ve definitely been taking time with my progress. While yes I am still producing lots of paintings that get your emotions and mind going. Magnets, hand painted jars and everyone’s favorites my small colorful pour drawings with much character and heart. I have much more behind the works and the thought of it makes me cry. Im excited to share all that I’ve been learning with life and being able to execute my paintings in the ways I see myself going. So much improvement in my being has been made and it’s helped me become an even better artist. I don’t think any artist is any different than the other. Yes our ways of expression and our blank canvas never ends in looking the same. But the community should be more together than apart and we’re all trying to move people with our work. We’re all trying to shine light and bring awareness no matter the topics. Especially with all the beautiful artist rising right now. Wow! It feels so powerful being apart of this magic that’s happening. It’s so lifting. I’m proud to be an artist who wants to help our community expand from within. Embrace all what life gives us from lows to highs. Alchemize it to more in every form. I appreciate all who feel a connection to my art. May it reach your core and bring you wisdom, comfort, perspective, or even just pleases your eyes to where it still touch’s your heart.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Just keep letting the art speak to you. Appreciate those who are being vulnerable. The time and emotions behind every work of art. The soul that lives in every piece. Just remember to always have an open heart.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
So I do events all over Houston really. I have bad anxiety at times but working on it. At times I’m just a burst of light like the sun that lives in me. Sometimes I’m just at a low energy but still trying to share my art with everyone. No matter how I feel I always interact with incredible people. At every event there’s always more than likely a conversation or multiple conversations that I just hold with me forever. Connecting with people from that level of vulnerability. The raw perspective with no filter but an open mind to learn more. From both beings I’d hope also haha.
