Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayla Lassetter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kayla, appreciate you joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I don’t think I would’ve started sooner or later. I believe the time that my business was born was perfect. I started my business in September 2020 right in the middle of the pandemic. I was at my 9-5 of almost 4 years & I was completely miserable. I wasn’t being paid or treated fairly, I had an idiot of a boss who had me doing a lot of HIS work, & it was a toxic environment. I had applied to what felt like 200 jobs & I never received any callbacks despite being more than qualified for the positions. That’s when I decided that if I couldn’t find the right career then I’d create one for myself on my own terms. I think if I would’ve tried starting my business at an earlier time, then I would’ve given up because I was comfortable where I was at. I wouldn’t have the same drive. If I would’ve waited any later, I think my mental health would’ve deteriorated so much to the point where I couldn’t handle that type of venture, because it definitely isn’t an easy one.
Kayla, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who don’t know, I own Free Spirit Virtual Solutions, a Done-For-You style Social Media Agency. When I say, “done-for-you” I mean literally 99% of everything is done FOR YOU. My team & I handle all organic social media efforts such as content creation & curation, copywriting, SEO & keyword research, strategies for growth, content, & social media, community engagement, & so much more.

Most of our clients have been with us since we opened our doors in 2020. We pride ourselves on growing with our clients as they grow with us. It’s a very beautiful thing to witness & be a part of.

How did you build your audience on social media?
My answer is something that a lot of people don’t care to hear because it’s not a quick tip or hacks they can implement, but I built my audience with a lot of time, patience, & genuine effort. When I say genuine effort, I mean GENUINE EFFORT. I made sure to interact with people & make real connections vs. just liking/commenting on their stuff. I created content that resonated with my ideal audience & positioned me as an authority in the industry. If you’re just starting to build your social media presence, focus on real connections & focusing on your personal brand. Think of your social media account as a mini-website or a portfolio.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
This is a good one. The most effective strategy for growing clientele in my book is providing an out-of-this-world client experience. This is not to be confused with customer service. From point A (first contact) to point B (services are over) your clients should have a consistent, wonderful experience with your business through the entire journey. By providing the best experience for clients, they send tons of referrals my way & also stay with my agency for years to come. Naturally, if a client loves your business/services/products they’ll tell the world about it. Retaining clients over chasing down new clients is the way to go.
