We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley & Kayla a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Ashley & Kayla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?

While it’s time consuming, we manage our own social media for a number of reasons. The biggest being because many of our clients trust us to keep their photos private. This is typically because they work in a particular field or need complete anonymity on social media. We respect all of our clients equally and understand all reasons for staying off our platforms. For other women who are willing and able to share their intimate photos with us, we love to celebrate them with our followers. Every body is unique and different, and our social accounts are just the vehicle to boost and encourage others! We love seeing friends, acquaintances and strangers alike uplift the ladies that we post about. It’s truly validating to the work we put our hearts into. Another reason we like maintaining our own profiles is that we love to put the time into creating our own content. We are artists by nature and have a specific vision for our work, and we want our online presence to reflect that. In addition, we enjoy sharing special posts about our clients – whether it’s their birthday, an anniversary or special occasion, we love having the opportunity to make past clients feel honored and appreciated.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

The Boudoir Party is an experience: designed by women, to empower women. We are an exclusive event, designed for ladies to celebrate self-love. The company was created so that a babe and her closest girls could pamper themselves in such a way that they feel their absolute strongest and most beautiful selves before posing in front of a camera. Mix together some champagne, professional hair and makeup, and lingerie, and any girl will be more than prepared for a unique and powerful boudoir photo shoot. Our team has years of boudoir photography experience, and we always make sure our girls feel completely comfortable and sexy. It’s like no other party out there – the laughs, the toasts, the fun – we want every girl to remember how it feels to be loved, supported by others, and kickass in the skin they’re in. Our company thrives on one main purpose: to uplift, empower and showcase the natural beauty of every woman who steps in front of our cameras.

We’re Ashley & Kayla, two friends who met in college and have been ‘doing life’ together ever since. Whether we’re making photo magic, traveling, or just lounging at the pool, we feel we’re always at our best when we’re side by side. Most of all, we believe in the power of documentation, and we love to help others freeze special moments in time. As boudoir photographers we work together to make our girls feel comfortable in front of our cameras, and leave their shoot feeling empowered and as beautiful as ever. We have a multitude of testimonials to prove that we do just that — give each and every girl who steps in front of our lens a fun, uplifting and life-changing experience… because she deserves it!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

In the midst of the covid pandemic, we had to halt, like most businesses. Much of our clientele had postponed their weddings or canceled their special events. This directly affected our business, since much of our revenue revolves around some kind of celebration. Luckily for us, we are an intimate team and our hiatus was only for a few months. We happily accommodated 100% of our rebooking requests, and postponed them to best fit their needs. That was the only way to survive: be flexible. And that, we were. We were so thankful our clients didn’t cancel their bookings with us, and chose to simply postpone their party with the excitement of being photographed at a later date. This pivot was obviously unwarranted and unexpected, but we were determined to come out a stronger business after the height of the pandemic.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The absolute most rewarding part of being a creative working in the boudoir realm is making women feel their absolute best through the magic of our lenses. We don’t add special filters or do any extensive photoshopping, so when our galleries are delivered to our clients, most of them are in awe of their images and nearly can’t believe it’s them. They are empowered simply by seeing themselves in a new light — without edits or manipulation. We pride ourselves in posing our clients in such a way that highlights their authentic selves.
