We recently connected with Kayla Fair-Fleming and Jasmine Brown have shared our conversation below.
Kayla and Jasmine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My name is Kayla Fair-Fleming . Growing up in high school , my name was Crack baby . I was made fun of because I was so skinny . Don’t get me wrong it was just a name like any other Nick name . I had friends and everything but i still was just known as that skinny girl. I wasn’t the pretty girl or the popular cheerleader . I was just “Crack Baby” . When i graduated highschool i soon became the party girl. I graduated high school early only to find myself arrested with my best friends . Once i got out of that thanks to my mother . I moved into my own place and went right into partying . I mean partying every night drinking & just having fun in my eyes . From Black outs to cops getting called . Then I met my boyfriend who soon turned abusive . He was an alcoholic who abusive women . And i loved him
Not matter what , i didn’t see the hurt he did . I thought that was love . With “my love “
Turned me to drugs . Wow, so now i was a party girl who got abused & high/drunk everyday . That spiraled down for years and years until i escaped from him and never looked back. However I didn’t leave the drugs . I continued dancing & doing drugs whenever I could. It was just my thing . & by this time i had one daughter & I wasn’t doing everything i should be . Long story short , one of my parties turned deadly it was the night that changed my life . I was having one of my regular parties as i always did . And my friends started fighting . And boom
They shot him . They shot my best friend right in front of us . And he was the good friend . The nice one who didn’t do what we did . He was the one who brought us all together & they killed him . They killed him and I had to call his mom . How did something we did every night to have fun cause someone to lose their life. It opened my eyes & i went into a real depression and sorta psychotic break . Then my daughter came & she was due on his birthday . It was a change , i could change for this baby . 5 years later I got my life together. I graduated school. And became a RN . Left drugs alone . The dancing life alone. I got my dream job in labor & delivery. I got married . I got my dream house .and i have beautiful kids . So i wanted to help others like me . So i started A Fair Life Home . A sober home for mothers who have no where to turn .who are ready to get their life on track starting now . I did that for everyone who doesn’t want to help them . I am head to make a change & show women there is a light out .

Kayla and Jasmine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Jasmine brown & I started A fair life home. I am a very proud director of A Fair Life home. A recovery home for mothers , who have no where to go . I have a house that will provide safe shelter for mothers and their kids. A lot of pregnant mothers are stuck and have no where to turn except addiction and I’d love to help each and everyone of them . I am very proud to say i am the one to help never to judge but to show everyone there is hope to change . No matter what . Let’s put your name on anything but a tombstone
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes i would. I have always wanted to bring life into the world . It’s such a sight to see. I worked in nursing world a long time & see a babies first breath is an awesome Sight.
Where did you meet your business partner?
We’ve met a few years ago our sons are on the same football team and we just clicked like it was a natural bond and we’ve been the close ever since . She’s the only one who really understands our struggles and sees our future.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Never give up , that is the most important thing you can learn . Everyone wants to succeed but it’s up to you to keep going . You have to get what you want . Everyone can start somewhere just continue to put your mind to it , research and find help. It will happen for you as well. But always remember where you came from and where you want to go . It will happen
