We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayla Bowen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayla below.
Alright, Kayla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
The best investment I’ve made as a business owner is continually investing in myself. People are often worried about spending money on themselves or their businesses, especially when they’re just starting out, because they don’t want to make a mistake or be out money, but this is so short-sighted. You are your greatest project you will ever work on and if you want your business to thrive, you need to invest in yourself first. You can’t expect clients to invest in you if you won’t even invest in yourself. I’ve invested thousands of dollars into myself and my business that weren’t technically “necessary,” but they helped me reach my goals faster. For example, I invested into going to a wellness retreat last year. This could appear frivolous or that it was purely for personal reasons, but going to this retreat actually helped me gain clarity on my own business. You never know how what you invest in will transform your life and pay dividends going forward.

Kayla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! I’m Kayla Bowen, a wedding photographer turned spiritual life coach and soon-to-be podcast host. Before becoming a life coach, I ran a successful six-figure wedding photography business for six years. While I enjoyed being my own boss and doing something creative, I knew that wedding photography was not my passion or purpose. It took me a while to find what was, but my health journey was the catalyst for what made me decide to change careers.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto’s. At the same time, I was burnt out, exhausted, overweight, and miserable in my life and wedding photography career. I knew something had to change, so I hired a health coach and began my health journey. I lost 20 pounds, was feeling much better in my body and life, and even decided to get certified as a health coach.
I tried out health coaching for a few months but realized that even though health was important to me, it wasn’t something I wanted to talk about all the time and I didn’t particularly want to help people with just their health. Enter last summer: I went on my first wellness retreat and had a spiritual awakening. I discovered that I didn’t want to just help women with their health; I wanted to help them transform their whole life!
Now, I’m a spiritual life coach and I feel like I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be and doing what I was put on this earth for. I help women manifest their dream lives and reach their highest potential by getting clear on their vision for their life, making a plan for how they will get there, and helping them navigate the challenges that will come up along the way by giving them accountability, support, and guidance. I help women quantum leap from where they currently are to where they want to be and become that 2.0 version of themselves so that they can have everything they desire.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn in business is the power of having community. Entrepreneurship can be very lonely, so it’s very important to surround yourself with like-minded peers in your industry. When I first moved to Las Vegas (where I live), I didn’t know anyone. I made it a point to connect with people in my industry by going to networking events and reaching out to people on social media. Now that I’m pivoting into life coaching, I’m taking the time to make new connections in my space. I go to conferences, networking events, and interact with other people in my industry online.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The best thing I’ve done to get more clients is to talk about my business all the time. This may feel awkward or self-absorbed at first, but no one will know about your business if you don’t talk about it. So whether it’s to your friends, family, or your nail tech, or a stranger you just met at a party – you need to talk about your business. You’re not even trying to sell to who you’re talking to, but perhaps they know someone they can connect you with.
