Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayla Banks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kayla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Coming onto the creative scene in 2016, I quickly realized I was stepping into a space filled with countless individuals chasing the dream of becoming full-time content creators. YouTube was the main platform, a place where many were building lucrative careers. I gave it a shot, but my journey there wasn’t as smooth as I’d hoped. Lacking the consistency and understanding of how to craft thriving videos, my initial attempt didn’t yield the results I had envisioned.
Rather than giving up, I pivoted. I shifted my mindset from trying to make this my lifestyle to simply creating and sharing content because I loved it, with no expectations attached. That shift was transformative. It was then I realized that being a creative in the beauty, fashion, and lifestyle space wasn’t just a hobby—it was my calling.
Even if success didn’t come with financial rewards, I knew I’d still pour my heart into this work. It didn’t feel like “work” at all. To this day, I’m fueled by that same passion, and it’s that love for what I do that continues to guide my journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a content creator and social media influencer dedicated to promoting plus-size fashion, body positivity, and self-love. My goal is to encourage all women to embrace and love the skin they’re in. My social media channels show my diverse interests, offering relatable content that ranges from cooking and video gaming to fashion inspiration.
I started by simply sharing my looks without expectations, and that authenticity resonated with people, helping me grow a large following. What sets me apart is my refusal to be boxed into a single niche or category—I am multi-dimensional, and there’s something for everyone on my page.
What I’m most proud of is building my platform authentically while embracing and loving myself which has not always been the easiest thing for me. By doing so, I’ve inspired thousands of women to do the same, and that’s what gives me purpose. Seeing others empowered by my journey and content fuels my passion to keep creating and connecting.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The resource I’ve always wished I had more of is community. Being a content creator can feel isolating at times, especially because not everyone understands the challenges of being a creative. In those moments when I feel like giving up, having a strong support system of like-minded individuals would have been invaluable.
Looking back, I also wish I had been more aware of educational resources, such as courses in photography and editing, earlier in my journey. While I eventually taught myself and honed those skills, access to those resources from the start would have made creating content easier and elevated the quality of my work much sooner.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
What non-creatives often struggle to understand about my journey as a content creator is that this isn’t just a hobby or a quick snap of a photo. It’s something I live, sleep, and breathe. Every piece of content I create represents my art and vision, from my eyes.
It’s not as simple as pressing a button or recording a fun moment with friends. From morning to night, my mind is constantly running with ideas—thinking about the concept, the look, the right camera and angles, the aesthetics and background, and finally, the editing process. Each step is intentional and deeply personal to me.
What many see as “just a photo” is, to me, the culmination of a creative process that reflects my passion and dedication. It’s art, and it’s a part of who I am.
